There is a magical moon

Việt NamViệt Nam27/09/2023

This year's Mid-Autumn Festival, for poor children, the miracle is not only the gifts given but also the loving and responsible companionship of all levels, sectors, localities and the whole community...

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, class 4D, Gia Tien Primary School (Gia Vien district) is the child of a union member and a worker in especially difficult circumstances. Lan's father is Nguyen Van Phuc. Phuc's family is near-poor and lives in a dilapidated level 4 house. Ngoc Lan is the second child in the family and unfortunately has leukemia.

Recently, Lan's illness has become more serious, requiring long-term treatment at the Central Hematology Hospital. According to the doctor's appointment, Lan must undergo chemotherapy once a month. Her mother is taking care of a younger sibling so she cannot participate in economic activities. All family expenses and Lan's treatment costs depend on Mr. Phuc's salary of more than 4.5 million VND.

Despite her difficult circumstances and poor health, Ngoc Lan is always diligent, tries to overcome difficulties, strives to study and achieves good results. To support, help and encourage Lan, Gia Vien District Labor Union and Tam An Fund of Tan Phu Tourism Joint Stock Company awarded her a scholarship for the 2023-2024 school year of 10 million VND, DaeDeok IMT Co., Ltd. - where Lan's father works, supported 3 months' salary with a total amount of 12 million VND. The gift-giving ceremony was held when the Mid-Autumn Festival was approaching, making the girl even happier and warmer.

Receiving this meaningful gift, Mr. Phuc was moved to share: These gifts are the Union's timely material and spiritual encouragement to Lan and her family on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The financial support will help the family have more conditions to take care of her studies when the new school year has begun. The community's concern is the most magical moonlight, a great source of encouragement, helping her to strive to overcome difficulties, continue to excel in her studies to become a useful person for society.

Bui Thi Thu Thao, 13 years old, in Binh Minh town (Kim Son district), is currently on a temporary leave of absence from school because she is undergoing treatment for leukemia. The longing for school, teachers, and friends… is even more intense now that the new school year has begun.

Thao smiled sadly and shared: My parents are freelancers. My father works on a clam fishing boat, working for hire and only comes home every week. My mother works for hire during the day and comes home at night to take care of my two sisters. Although life is difficult, those are warm and happy days. Since July 2022, I discovered that I had leukemia and was in the early stages of stage 3, and had to undergo intensive treatment. My health has deteriorated, I can no longer continue my studies at school, so I had to drop out of school.

Every time Thao returned from the hospital, neighbors, teachers and friends came to visit and encourage her. These feelings partly eased the physical pain caused by her illness. These days, as the Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching, Thao also received many kind-hearted people coming to visit and give her gifts. Pairs of cakes, lanterns… were enough to fill her with joy.

"Mid-Autumn Festival is a very busy day. Parents buy toys, candies, lanterns, and feasts for children... As for my sister and I, due to difficult circumstances, the full moon night is like any other night, an afternoon spent waiting for mom to come home from work, waiting for dad's train to arrive... Despite the difficulties, my parents still buy gifts for my sister and me. My small house is warm and happy. Since I got sick, my parents have had more worries. I try my best to endure the pain, just hoping to recover soon so I can return to school and help my parents with housework. I hope that my wish on this magical moonlit night will come true" - Thao said.

Mr. Tran Van Binh, Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Binh Minh town, said: Thao is the eldest daughter in a poor family in the locality. She has a serious illness that requires long-term treatment, so she needs a large amount of money, beyond the family's ability. The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming, and benefactors have also visited and given her gifts, hoping that all good things will come to Thao.

In the coming time, to help the family have more funds for treatment, the town Red Cross has reported to the local government, and at the same time spread and connect kind-hearted people to Thao's situation. Hopefully, the community's cooperation will help her have more conditions to perform better treatment and soon stabilize her health.

Mr. Mai Van Truong, Chairman of the Kim Son District Red Cross Society, said: Every year, on holidays, New Year, Children's Day, Mid-Autumn Festival, etc., the District Red Cross Society actively mobilizes and becomes a bridge connecting kind-hearted people to children in difficult circumstances.

This year, the District Red Cross Society received gifts from the Provincial Red Cross Society and benefactors to hand out to more than 30 children from poor households and children in difficult circumstances. These gifts have helped the children to have a full and warm Mid-Autumn Festival.
