After a period of careful preparation of technological infrastructure conditions, on August 2, the Ha Tinh Department of Health coordinated with Hong Linh Medical Center to organize a ceremony to evaluate and announce the implementation of using and storing electronic medical records with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Health and provincial departments and branches. This is the first medical facility in the whole province to deploy the use of electronic medical records, opening a new method of operating and managing medical examination and treatment in the digital transformation era.

Doctor Nguyen Hoa - Deputy Director of Hong Linh Medical Center shared: Implementing the roadmap of the Government and the Ministry of Health, under the direction of the Department of Health, in the past time, the unit has focused on the implementation of electronic medical records. The center proactively sent working groups to learn from the experiences of units outside the province that have implemented it. Along with that, it is coordinating and perfecting the technology infrastructure from computers, upgrading transmission lines, setting up software, deploying digital signatures for all doctors and nurses and arranging smart kiosks; training the entire team of doctors and nurses on the operation of electronic medical records process".
In particular, the center has coordinated with VNPT to synchronize and connect with 4 key software including: HIS, LIS, PACS and ERM, thereby completely closing the process from reception, information management, medical history, test results, and imaging diagnosis for patients in an electronic environment, replacing paper medical records.

After more than 1 week of operation, the electronic medical record has brought great benefits to both doctors and patients. This is an important milestone in the digital transformation journey at Hong Linh Medical Center, contributing to the modernization of the medical record management system, improving the quality of medical examination and treatment and optimizing people's health care.
Coming to treat diabetes and cardiovascular disease, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phuong (68 years old, Nam Hong Linh ward) shared: "I came here to do blood tests and echocardiograms. All my test results were clearly displayed in the electronic medical record. After receiving my consent, all test results, scans and prescriptions were sent by the doctors to my family via phone, no longer having to carry paper records like before."
As for Ms. Phan Thi Thanh (Bac Hong Linh ward), instead of having to bring many documents and old medical records for re-examination, when coming to Hong Linh Medical Center, through the guidance of the staff, Ms. Thanh only needed to use her CCCD card to swipe into the smart kiosk to complete her medical examination and treatment registration process, all data, information about the patient and medical records from previous re-examinations were updated by the hospital. This contributed to saving a lot of time and effort in completing the procedures.

Not only for patients, but electronic medical records also bring many benefits to doctors and nurses in examination and treatment. Accordingly, thanks to the synchronous implementation of training and guidance, up to now, all doctors and nurses of the center have mastered the implementation of electronic medical records.
Dr. Tran Quang Dat - Head of the Department of Ophthalmology - Maxillofacial - Otorhinolaryngology said: "Compared to paper records, the use of electronic medical records helps save a lot of time for medical staff. Previously, when we wanted to see the medical records of patients in other departments, we had to go to that department to find the paper records, but with electronic medical records, we can sit in the department and view them on the software system. Issuing medical orders and prescribing drugs in the electronic environment also ensures accuracy and limits errors."
As for the nursing team, instead of having to check paper medical records to prepare medicine according to the doctor's orders like before, now they can just go to the patient's electronic medical record to update quickly.

Doctor Nguyen Hoa - Deputy Director of Hong Linh Medical Center informed: "Since the operation of electronic medical records, there has been a clear change in management efficiency and improvement of the quality of medical examination and treatment. Processes and records are completely digitized, no need for papers or books. Data is recorded, displayed and stored electronically, with a legal basis and functions equivalent to paper medical records through digital signatures. All information of patients when coming to the hospital for treatment is fully stored, contributing to shortening the time for medical examination and treatment. On the other hand, electronic medical records also help reporting and statistics to be convenient, accurate and quick, thereby freeing up a lot of time and effort for the medical team".
The completion of the appraisal and putting into use of electronic medical records by Hong Linh Medical Center is an important step forward not only at the center but also a premise for units in the process of building and operating electronic medical records to learn from experience, soon complete and deploy. At the same time, we hope that Hong Linh Medical Center will have support and share experiences with other units in the industry to jointly implement and complete the deployment of electronic medical records, ensuring completion before September 30, 2025 according to the roadmap prescribed by the Ministry of Health and the Provincial People's Committee.
