The Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that besides the 10 main gates of the Hue Citadel, in the northeast corner there is also a side gate leading from the Citadel through Tran Binh Dai called Tran Binh Mon.
Tran Binh Mon was built at the citadel connecting the two fortresses of Dong Binh and Bac Dinh with the meaning of protecting peace. In 1805 under King Gia Long, this was just a citadel built of earth, until around 1818 it was built of bricks.
In 1832, this gate was rebuilt, and in 1836, King Minh Mang changed the name to Tran Binh Mon, meaning the architectural work used to keep the Citadel safe. During the resistance wars, this place witnessed many fierce battles.
With historical value, belonging to the Hue Citadel relic, Tran Binh Mon was thought to have been restored and preserved, but now it is seriously degraded. The wooden door is damaged, the arched door is blocked and cannot be used. The ground of Tran Binh Mon is full of garbage, at risk of becoming a gathering place for social evils...
Some images recorded by reporters of Health & Life Newspaper:
According to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, Tran Binh Mon is a type of secret gate built with bricks and Bat Trang plastered with lime mortar, 6.16m high, 21.1m deep, the central arch is 3.6m high, 2.77m wide and has 2 wooden doors, upper and lower panels, painted red.
Above the arched door, there is still a Thanh stone plaque 1.60m long, 0.66m wide, 0.17m thick engraved with 3 Chinese characters Tran Binh Mon.
Inside, on the right side, there is a small door leading to a room believed to be the warehouse of Tran Binh Dai.
Over time, Tran Binh Mon is now seriously degraded. Graffiti appears on some of the walls.
The middle of the city gate floor was full of garbage.
The roof above Tran Binh Mon is damaged but not repaired.
Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said that Tran Binh Mon is currently degraded, but is under the management of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Military Command. In the long term, the Center will research and propose specific solutions to restore Tran Binh Mon for effective exploitation and protection.
Meanwhile, in an exchange with reporters, the leader of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Military Command confirmed that the Tran Binh Mon area is currently under military management. When the Provincial Military Command and Hospital 268 move to a new location, this area will be handed over to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center for management, after which this unit will include it in the restoration plan.
