Hanoi Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2024

The contest is organized to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

Speaking at the program, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Do Dinh Hong said: With the theme: "The 2024 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest is organized with higher requirements on quality and scale with the aim of creating a useful and interesting playground for teenagers and students in Hanoi; spreading the passion for reading to the young generation; introducing and promoting the thousand-year-old capital Hanoi in the process of integration and development; exchanging and sharing experiences of reading and developing a reading culture. From there, encourage and promote the reading movement in schools and communities, forming habits and improving reading skills for students; encouraging them to strive to study and through specific actions and deeds to contribute to building the "Cultured - Civilized - Modern" capital.

According to Mr. Do Dinh Hong, the organization of this year's contest has been carried out thoroughly and systematically, from planning to issuing the contest rules; from setting up criteria to organizing the selection of entries. The highlight of this year's contest compared to previous years is that the Organizing Committee has combined two forms of collective competition (book promotion) and individual competition (Reading Culture Ambassador).

In the collective competition, teams select and introduce books about the capital Hanoi - City for Peace - Creative City; about the culture, people, history, famous places, and revolutionary traditions of the heroic capital. As for the individual competition, contestants submit entries in the form of articles, video clips, or paintings, and innovate and make each presentation and speech on stage more attractive.

The final round's contests were carefully invested in terms of content and form.

This year's contest received 354,632 entries (articles, video clips, paintings) from 1,335 primary, secondary and high schools in the city; along with 546 communes, wards and towns forming teams to participate in the collective competition (book promotion and introduction).

Previously, in 02 days (August 15 and 16, 2024), the Organizing Committee judged the preliminary round of the competition. Through the preliminary round, the Organizing Committee selected 06 individuals and 06 excellent groups to compete in the final round.

"The quality of this year's contest was highly appreciated by the jury in both content and form, the number of entries sent to the Organizing Committee increased by nearly 300% compared to 2023. It can be said that the contest with the participation of all levels, departments and branches; especially the close coordination of the Library Department, the Propaganda Department of the City Party Committee, the Department of Culture and Sports, the Department of Education and Training, the Department of Information and Communications, the Hanoi Youth Union; between the Hanoi Library and the People's Committee, the Department of Culture and Information, the Department of Education and Training, the Center for Culture, Information and Sports, the Youth Union of districts, towns has brought many good results" - Mr. Do Dinh Hong emphasized.

In the final round, the teams all invested a lot of effort in their performance, showing that this activity attracted great attention from the localities.

The team from Dong Anh district has excellently recreated vividly the history of Hanoi's revolutionary struggle against foreign invaders since the Party and Uncle Ho led it through the book "The heroic spirit of Thang Long in the Ho Chi Minh era". The team from Tay Ho district brought the audience back to the cultural space with beautiful, poetic scenes of an old Hanoi through the book "Old Hanoi Streets". Meanwhile, contestant Tran Bao Long from Soc Son district surprised the audience with his self-composed poem "The soft book pillow" that accompanied his childhood....

And the heroic spirit of Thang Long - Hanoi continues to be highlighted and deepened by the teams through the books "There is a Hanoi in me", "From the capital to the capital", "Telling stories of Thang Long - Hanoi of thousands of years ago",...

Evaluating the preliminary round of the contest, the jury said that this year's teams were all carefully and seriously prepared; investing heavily in music, accompaniment, costumes, singing, and dancing, which was demonstrated through the quality of both the content and form of their entries. Many contestants had attractive, creative, and exciting ways of presenting and introducing books, spreading reading culture. Many teams left a deep impression and lingering emotions in the hearts of viewers.

At the end of the final round, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes to outstanding groups and individuals./.
