Referring to the film “Sao thang tam” directed by People’s Artist Tran Dac, People’s Artist Thanh Tu said that this is a typical film for the revolutionary war film genre after 1975. The film was filmed during 1975-1976, consisting of two episodes: “Mua xuan bao bao” and “Mua hoi thu”. In 1977, “Sao thang tam” won the Golden Lotus Award, artist Thanh Tu was honored as the Best Actress at the 4th Vietnam Film Festival; later, Thanh Tu was also awarded a Special Prize by the Soviet Union Women’s Committee at the Moscow International Film Festival.

The opportunity for artist Thanh Tu to act in the film “Sao thang am” was also very special. During an audition for the role of Chi Dau in director Pham Van Khoa’s film, director Tran Dac saw Thanh Tu and was determined that the female artist would be the one to play the role of Chi Nhu. To transform into the role of a female revolutionary soldier, Thanh Tu was asked by director Tran Dac to meet living witnesses, women who had directly participated in the revolution before 1945 such as Ms. Ha Thi Que, former President of the Vietnam Women’s Union, or Ms. Nguyen Khoa Dieu Hong, who gave a speech in the square of the Hanoi Opera House on the afternoon of August 17, 1945.
The role of Ms. Nhu became a major milestone in the career of People's Artist Thanh Tu, not only because of its psychological depth but also because of its complex transformations. The character had to constantly change identities to deceive the spies and build a revolutionary base: Sometimes she was an elegant Dong Khanh female student, sometimes she was a pregnant worker, sometimes she was a simple seamstress, a "sweet-voiced" saleswoman, or an ascetic nun chanting sutras to save the dead from starvation... With each transformation, the female artist carefully studied the character's psychology. For example, when she transformed into a nun, Thanh Tu went to Ba Da Pagoda (Hanoi), listened to Dharma talks, learned to chant sutras, and learned deeply about Buddhism to properly express the demeanor and tone of a monk.
The most haunting detail for People's Artist Thanh Tu and also left a strong impression on the audience was the scene where the character of Ms. Nhu stood silently behind the wall, listening to the sound of Japanese gunfire shooting her husband dead. She did not cry, did not shed too many tears, but her eyes contained both pain, hatred and a strong will. According to People's Artist Thanh Tu, the character of Ms. Nhu was a typical model for revolutionary women at that time: resilient, dedicated, ready to sacrifice everything to embark on an uncertain journey with a belief in the future of the country.
Up to now, although over 80 years old, People's Artist Thanh Tu always feels honored when the film "August Star" has become a classic work on the August Revolution. For her, the greatest happiness is that her character has helped the next generation understand more deeply about an important historical period, about the people who lived, fought and entered the history of the nation. People's Artist Thanh Tu also believes that Vietnamese cinema is still waiting for new creative talents to have more films on the theme of revolutionary war as the previous generation of artists did. To do that, in addition to good material conditions and talented artists, above all, there must be the spirit, enthusiasm and "professional fire" of the new generation of young artists.
