For a long time, the household economy has been considered a solid foundation in building and developing the socio-economic situation in localities. Thanks to the choice of developing a diverse and suitable economic model, as well as being hard-working and diligent, many households in the province not only have a stable source of income but also create jobs for local workers.

Taught the profession by their parents, brother Le Chi Thuc and sister Le Thi Phuong Loan both have their own tofu production facilities.

In 2021, Loan and her husband invested 150 million VND to purchase machinery and equipment, build a hot bean production and trading facility at Phien Cam Lo market. Thanks to the focus on quality and food hygiene and safety, her products have been trusted and chosen by many consumers since opening. On average, Loan and her husband use more than 1 ton of soybeans every day to produce tofu.

In addition to fresh tofu products sold for 5,000 VND/piece, her establishment also sells fried tofu, bean curd, tofu... "On full moon and vegetarian days every month, the number of customers coming to buy tofu is double that of normal days. The tofu making profession now has many steps using machines, so it is less difficult," Ms. Loan confided.

She also revealed that every month after deducting all expenses, she and her husband earn a profit of 10 - 12 million VND, thanks to which the family's economy is more stable than before.

Compared to Ms. Loan, Mr. Thuc's family has been involved in the tofu making business for a longer time. On average, every day, Mr. Thuc's tofu production facility in Cam Vu 3 village, Cam Thuy commune, Cam Lo district, uses more than 2 tons of soybeans to make wholesale products for retailers at markets in Cam Lo district, Dong Ha city.

“I use pure soybeans and natural yeast, absolutely no additional ingredients or additives. Luckily, over the years, my wife and I’s products have always been trusted and supported by customers near and far,” said Mr. Thuc.

This job brings the couple hundreds of millions of dong in income each year. Not only that, they also create regular jobs for 4 local workers with a salary of 6 million dong/person/month. Recently, taking advantage of the by-products obtained after making tofu, Mr. Thuc and his wife have also raised pigs to increase the family's income.

The family of Ms. Ngo Thi Lien, Trung Nam commune, Vinh Linh district, used to be poor. However, thanks to changing the way of doing business, not focusing on rice cultivation but developing a variety of other economic models, her family's economy has improved.

Taking advantage of the locality, she planted 8 more hectares of rubber; and rotated vegetables, potatoes, taro, cassava, watermelon... on 10 hectares of red soil.

In recent years, realizing that the business of raising cows and pigs for breeding, which involves directly insemination for the females to reproduce, is “profitable”, the couple invested money to buy 3 pigs and 2 bulls. On average, each day, the family earns 500,000 VND from this breeding business.

Diligent, hard-working, and taking advantage of her time, Ms. Lien also has a "side job" sewing clothes and curtains for neighboring households in the commune. On average, each year, from the above economic models, her family earns more than 200 million VND. She and her husband have officially escaped poverty since 2008.

In Vinh Thai commune, Vinh Linh district, Ho Sy Duong's family is one of the typical examples of household economic development.

“Coming out of poverty with nothing, what my wife and I have is hard work and diligence. Because I know that other than working, there is no other way to escape poverty,” Mr. Duong recalls.

On an area of nearly 1 hectare of sandy land given by their parents, they worked hard to grow many types of short-term vegetables such as squash, taro, cassava, and nettle. Later, Mr. Duong discussed with his wife to buy sows, pigs, cows, and chickens to raise. At the peak, his family's herd of pigs grew to 35. During the season, he also did extra work catching fish and squid.

Every year, the model of raising livestock, growing many crops, and catching aquatic products brings Mr. Duong's family an income of nearly 200 million VND.

According to the Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Vinh Thai Commune, Nguyen Huu Thanh, the economic development of households in Vinh Thai Commune has contributed to promoting the economic restructuring in a positive direction, and the quality of life of people is increasingly improved. "In the coming time, the Farmers' Association of Vinh Thai Commune will continue to advise the Commune People's Committee to create conditions for households to develop the economy by linking with banks to support loan sources; focusing on developing economic models suitable to local advantages," Mr. Thanh affirmed.

The province currently has over 100,000 farmer members. In recent times, many household economic models of members have been operating effectively, contributing to job creation, hunger eradication and poverty reduction in localities. “The development of household economy is the driving force and premise for the development of collective economy.

Therefore, leaders and authorities at all levels always pay attention to and support people in implementing techniques, and provide additional crops, seeds, and materials for effective production.

At the same time, encourage the establishment of cooperatives and cooperative groups for people to link production, promote agricultural development towards concentrated commodity production," said Vice Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association Le Van Man.
