According to records at 10:00 a.m. on October 22, the water level of Phu Ninh Lake was at +28.20m. Water regulation was carried out through deep spillways with a flow rate of 25m³/s to 700m³/s.

The operation and regulation work aims to maintain the highest water level, ensuring the correct operating procedure until the end of October at an elevation of +30.50m.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Kien, Director of Phu Ninh Irrigation Branch (under Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited) said: "According to calculations, with the forecasted heavy rainfall, the water level in the lake can reach from 120 million m³ to 150 million m³. m³.

Currently, the empty capacity of Phu Ninh Lake is from 105 million m³ to 110 million m³. We also calculate moderate regulation to reduce the water level to about 120 million m³ to 130 million m³, participating in flood reception and flood reduction for downstream areas."

According to Mr. Kien, in recent years, Phu Ninh reservoir has effectively participated in reducing floods in the downstream area. The branch regularly follows the reservoir operation process, grasps weather forecast information, and natural disaster developments to make appropriate regulatory calculations.

Along with that, the Branch coordinated with households raising fish in cages along the Tam Ky River to sign a commitment to ensure safety during the storm season, thanks to which, for many years now there has been no major damage.

Currently, Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited is managing 17 irrigation reservoirs. In response to the development of storm No. 12 and the forecast of very heavy rains, the Company urgently deployed response plans.

Mr. Dao Van Thien, Deputy General Director of Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited, said that of the 17 reservoirs managed by the Company, 7 are full.

Of these, the two large reservoirs, Phu Ninh and Vinh Trinh, have water levels above the bottom of the spillway. The company has announced regulation and operation to participate in flood reception and flood reduction for the downstream area.

According to forecasts, the impact of storm No. 12 and cold air will cause widespread heavy rain, extending from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai.

Da Nang city is likely to have widespread heavy rain lasting for many days, with the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying and urban areas.

Therefore, the safe operation of irrigation and hydroelectric reservoirs before, during and after storms is focused on and urgently implemented.
