The University of Melbourne has risen in the rankings thanks to improvements in teaching and research quality, according to THE report.

In addition, five other Australian universities also appeared in the world's top 100, including: University of Sydney (53rd), Monash University (58th), Australian National University (73rd), University of New South Wales (79th) and University of Queensland (80th).

Schools are evaluated based on a number of criteria, including teaching quality, research capacity, innovation and international reputation.

Ms. Emma Johnston, Principal of the University of Melbourne, expressed her joy at this result and emphasized that the school has a diverse team of lecturers in terms of expertise and experience.

This year, a series of prestigious British schools and the Ivy League (including the top 8 universities in the US) continue to appear in the top group of the rankings.

Oxford University has held the number one spot for the 10th consecutive year, while Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, Princeton University and Cambridge University round out the top five.

This information was announced after QS - a British company specializing in ranking universities around the world - honored 10 Australian educational institutions in the top 100.

The University of Melbourne ranked 19th, while the University of Western Australia, the University of Adelaide and the University of Technology Sydney also featured.
