This morning, General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense , chaired the welcoming ceremony for Major General Pavel Muraveiko, Chief of the General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of National Defense of Belarus, on an official visit to Vietnam.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong affirmed that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Belarus has been continuously strengthened and nurtured over the years.

The two countries upgraded to a Strategic Partnership during General Secretary To Lam 's visit to Belarus in early May, in which defense plays an important pillar in the bilateral relationship.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong said that defense cooperation has been implemented effectively, in line with the overall relationship between the two countries, achieving positive results. Specifically, delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level ones; cooperation between the armies, service branches and agencies and units of the two countries' defense ministries, training cooperation, military science cooperation...
At the talks, the two sides shared views on the world and regional situation and issues of mutual concern.


General Nguyen Tan Cuong emphasized that ASEAN is a key factor in shaping the regional structure through ASEAN-led mechanisms. Vietnam supports and works with its members to consolidate ASEAN's central role, strengthen solidarity and unity within the bloc, narrow differences, and promote substantive cooperation with partners.
Regarding the East Sea, Vietnam persistently resolves all disagreements in the East Sea by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982); effectively and fully implements the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and promptly concludes negotiations and signs a substantive and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).


Vietnam pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development; is a friend, a reliable partner and an active, responsible member of the international community; and persistently pursues the "four no's" defense policy for the common interest, for sustainable development and prosperity in the region and the world.
Regarding the direction of cooperation, General Nguyen Tan Cuong suggested that the two sides coordinate to effectively implement the cooperation contents identified in the signed documents.
The two countries' militaries need to maintain forms of exchange and cooperation between military branches and services; strengthen cooperation in training and military sports, continue to support and actively participate in international defense exhibitions organized by each side; and at the same time, research potential areas of cooperation such as military science and military medicine.




For his part, Major General Pavel Muraveiko shared that Vietnam and Belarus have many similarities, both having gone through struggles for independence and national liberation. Major General Pavel Muraveiko acknowledged the positive results in defense cooperation in recent times, and that there is still a lot of room for cooperation.
Major General Pavel Muraveiko agreed with Vietnam's viewpoints and assessments of the world and regional situation. Belarus is ready to cooperate with countries with friendly policies to jointly develop for stability and peace in the region and the world.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus proposed that the two countries continue to promote delegation exchanges, military sports and training.
He thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for accepting Belarusian soldiers to study Vietnamese, which is an opportunity for Belarus to enhance its understanding of Vietnamese culture, country and people, and at the same time promote friendship.
On the same day, receiving Major General Pavel Muraveiko, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, said that Vietnam-Belarus defense cooperation has been effectively implemented, in accordance with the overall traditional friendship and international treaties and agreements.

The Vietnam-Belarus Strategic Partnership has developed well in many fields, in which defense cooperation plays an important role.
General Phan Van Giang affirmed that the people and the Vietnam People's Army always appreciate the valuable support and assistance of the people and army of Belarus. To express gratitude for that assistance, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense built the Vietnam - Soviet Union Solidarity and Friendship Monument (including Belarusian military experts) in the grounds of the Vietnam Military History Museum.
The Minister of National Defense hopes that Vietnam and Belarus will continue to coordinate and effectively implement signed cooperation documents; maintain forms of exchange and cooperation between the armies and military branches of the two countries...

Major General Pavel Muraveiko affirmed that the defense cooperation between the two countries still has a lot of room for development, and hoped that Minister Phan Van Giang would pay attention and support so that the defense cooperation between the two countries can develop further.
Regarding the direction of cooperation, Major General Pavel Muraveiko stated that Belarus will promote training cooperation based on the needs of both sides; at the same time, it is ready to promote cooperation in other potential fields such as military science, military medicine...
