Talking to reporters, Mr. Tran Xuan Hung - Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Disease Control said: We have coordinated to advise on the development of inter-sectoral guidelines on school health work in educational institutions, in accordance with the actual local situation. At the same time, the unit also deployed to medical units to closely monitor the development of epidemics, especially infectious diseases that are at risk of spreading in the school environment. Monitoring and early detection of cases and outbreaks will be carried out regularly, especially in schools with a large number of boarding and semi-boarding students to have timely treatment plans to prevent epidemics from breaking out.

Right from the beginning of the school year, schools in the province have simultaneously organized a general cleaning of classrooms, functional classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, dormitories, etc. to ensure a clean, airy space with enough natural light, contributing to the effective prevention of school-related diseases and disabilities.

At Muong Khuong Secondary School, school health care is always focused on ensuring the health of students, staff and teachers. The school's health room has been fully invested in equipment, meeting the requirements for medical examination and first aid in emergency situations. Recently, school health staff coordinated with homeroom teachers to disseminate information on preventing and combating pink eye disease to students, advising them to practice good personal hygiene to control the spread of pink eye disease in schools.

To ensure primary health care for students, schools in the area also always coordinate closely with health stations and sub-health stations in implementing school health activities. Schools with boarding kitchens in the province have signed commitments with food suppliers to strictly comply with food safety and hygiene regulations. The kitchens are periodically inspected, contributing to protecting students' health. Thanks to the synchronous coordination, primary health care for students is being well implemented, creating a safe and healthy learning environment, improving the quality of comprehensive education.

According to the 2024-2025 school year report, in Lao Cai province alone (old), the total number of students with injuries at all levels is 1,941, of which the highest rate is 73.42% due to falls, 6.23% due to animal bites, 13.65% due to cuts on limbs and 4.53% due to traffic accidents. This reality requires attention and promotion of injury prevention for students in schools.

Recently, Ban Phiet Medical Station coordinated with Ban Phiet Primary School, Lao Cai Ward to organize a health education and propaganda session for all cadres, teachers, staff and students in the school. At the propaganda session, medical staff provided basic knowledge about common accidents in the school environment such as: falls, burns, drowning, choking on foreign objects, electric shock..., and at the same time instructed on first aid and effective prevention measures. The activity contributed to raising students' awareness of self-protection, while equipping teachers and school staff with timely situation handling skills.

Thereby, disseminating knowledge of adolescents; characteristics of puberty in men and women; opposite-sex friendship, gender, psychological and physiological changes in puberty; risks of teenage pregnancy; consequences of early marriage, consanguineous marriage... to help students equip themselves with knowledge about reproductive health care, practice positive and healthy living skills.

However, school health care still faces some difficulties such as: the rate of schools without medical staff with medical expertise is quite high; some school health care staff have not yet reached the minimum level of intermediate medical practitioner according to Joint Circular No. 13/2016/TTLT-BYT-BGDĐT. School health care human resources are lacking in both quantity and quality, affecting the ability to provide care, first aid, and prevent school-related diseases.

School health care is one of the key factors contributing to creating a safe and quality educational environment. Overcoming difficulties, with close and synchronous coordination between the education and health sectors and the active participation of local authorities, the 2025-2026 school year is expected to take place in conditions that ensure maximum health for students, contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive education.
