Denmark: Two planes cancelled flights due to bomb threat

According to Aviation 24, on the evening of March 21 local time, two commercial planes en route from the capital Copenhagen (Denmark) to the city of Stavanger (Norway) had to return to Copenhagen airport due to concerns about the risk of a bomb attack.

A Scandinavian Airlines System plane was asked to turn around after entering Norwegian airspace. Another Norwegian plane was also asked to turn around after takeoff.

All passengers on the two flights were safely evacuated upon landing at the airport. Danish police said they would search for dangerous objects on the plane.

Earlier in the day, the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) raised its terrorist threat alert, as well as targeting the country's interests abroad. PET said the threat has increased and is currently at level 4/5 on the PET scale.

According to Michael Hamann, Director of the Terrorism Analysis Center at PET, the desecration of the Quran and the conflict in the Middle East are having a strong impact on the terrorist threat in Denmark. PET believes that these factors will continue to influence the threat level in 2024.

Danish police are investigating, while authorities are working with Copenhagen Airport to reroute flights following the warning. Passengers will be put on alternative flights once the situation is resolved.
