On the afternoon of May 25, Dr. Lam Thanh Bay, Head of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging - Saigon Tam Ky General Hospital ( Quang Nam ), said that doctors had just performed an endoscopic intervention and successfully removed a foreign object, a denture, from the esophagus of female patient NTH (37 years old, in Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam).
Previously, at 7:30 a.m. the same day, Saigon Tam Ky General Hospital admitted female patient NTH to the hospital for examination with chest tightness and painful swallowing...
The false tooth was removed from the esophagus.
According to Ms. H., while eating breakfast, she accidentally swallowed the denture down her esophagus. She immediately induced vomiting several times to push the foreign object out, but was unsuccessful.
After examination, the doctors determined that there was a foreign object, so they took an X-ray and used an endoscopy using Endocap and Snare under the endoscope to remove the foreign object. The doctors successfully removed the dentures.
After the intervention, female patient H. can eat and drink normally, no longer has painful swallowing or chest pain...
According to Dr. Bay, fortunately after removing the denture, the doctors performed an endoscopy and found no bleeding or damage to the mucosa, so Ms. H. was discharged home.
Recently, this hospital has also promptly performed surgery and successfully treated many cases of foreign body aspiration brought to the emergency room by their families.
