On September 30, Can Tho Central General Hospital announced that the hospital's respiratory medicine doctors had just performed a bronchoscopy to remove a foreign object (sapo seed) that had been left in a patient's bronchus for many years.
The patient, Mr. PTT (43 years old, from Ca Mau province), came to the hospital for a check-up due to a cough with phlegm and wheezing that had not gone away for about 10 years. The patient said that he had visited many hospitals, private doctors... and was diagnosed with bronchial asthma.
Recently, after a prolonged cough that continued to get worse, with a lot of cloudy phlegm, he visited the respiratory clinic of Can Tho Central General Hospital. Suspecting that the patient had a foreign body in the bronchus, the doctors advised and ordered him to be hospitalized for a bronchoscopy.
The doctor ordered a flexible bronchoscopy, which showed severe acute inflammation of the bronchial mucosa of the lower lobe of the right lung, with a lot of cloudy sputum. The team proceeded to flush and aspirate the sputum, and successfully removed the foreign object, a 17x8mm sapo particle.
After being informed that there were sapo seeds in the bronchus, the patient remembered that more than 10 years ago he ate sapo and choked, coughed... but then forgot and did not think that he had choked on sapo seeds.
Currently, after the foreign object was removed, the patient is stable, the lungs are well ventilated, the cough is reduced, and the chest tightness has clearly improved.
