Dang Ngoc Phuong Trinh won the 2023 World Super Memory Competition

Dang Ngoc Phuong Trinh, Tam Tri Luc Education Group, Ho Chi Minh City, is 23 years old. Phuong Trinh's achievement is to correctly memorize 618 random shapes after only 5 minutes. The old record was held by the French with the achievement of memorizing 547 shapes after 5 minutes.

Dang Ngoc Phuong Trinh's result surprised the judges and the audience, because for the first time a new world record was broken by 71 points, bringing home the Gold Medal for the Vietnamese team. The prize money for this year's winner is 200,000 USD.

The World Memory Championship was founded by British Professor Tony Buzan in 1991.

This year, the competition took place over three days, November 24, 25 and 26, 2023, at the Cidco Exhibition Center (Mumbai, India), attracting 779 contestants from 13 countries, including many experienced experts from teams from Germany, Denmark, Mongolia, India, Japan...

Notable among them are Dr. Johannes Mallow - German national team player with 2 world championships, 9 German championships and 7 world memory records, and player Simon Reinhard (also on the German team) who has won the world championship twice.

The contestants are divided into 4 groups according to age, including under 12 years old, 13-18 years old, 19-60 years old and over 60 years old.

Contestants must go through 10 challenges such as remembering random words, names and faces, numbers, images, etc. Vietnam's representatives in this year's competition are the sisters Dang Thu Hien and Dang Ngoc Phuong Trinh. Both have been part of the Vietnam Memory team for 4 years and have participated in the 2019 Asian Memory Championship (held in Malaysia) and the 2019 World Memory Championship (held in China).

Dang Ngoc Phuong Trinh helped the Vietnamese team win 4th place at the Asia- Pacific Memory Championship and enter the Top 10 World Super Memory 2019.

Dang Ngoc Phuong Trinh and her sister Dang Thu Hien (25 years old) are a pair of sisters known as "Vietnam's memory superstars" because they overcame nearly 100 competitors to win the first and second place prizes of the first Vietnam Super Memory Contest (2009).

In this competition, Dang Ngoc Phuong Trinh is the contestant who consecutively set 5 records/10 subjects: The person who listens and remembers the most numbers, the person who remembers the most random numbers correctly, the person who remembers the most binary numbers correctly, the person who remembers the most names and faces correctly, the person who remembers the most historical events. Previously, Phuong Trinh won all monthly rounds (from June to September 2019).
