On the afternoon of August 19, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan on the occasion of the King's State visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam warmly welcomed the King and Queen of Bhutan's visit, highly appreciating the significance of the first state-level visit between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

General Secretary To Lam believes that the King's visit, accompanied by many high-ranking Bhutanese officials, is an important milestone, creating an opportunity to deepen the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Bhutan in a practical and effective manner, meeting the interests of the two peoples and contributing responsibly to peace, stability and sustainable development in the region and the world.

Congratulating Bhutan on its impressive achievements in national construction and development under the reign and leadership of the King, General Secretary To Lam welcomed Bhutan's development model with its own unique characteristics admired by the world for its emphasis on environmental protection, preservation of cultural heritage and happiness for its people, making it one of the "happiest countries in the world"; considering it a very strategic and wise development vision.

The General Secretary said that the two countries share many similarities in development orientations and goals, which creates conditions for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the coming time; he affirmed that Vietnam always supports Bhutan's development orientations and goals.

Expressing his joy at his first State visit to Vietnam, King Jigme of Bhutan sincerely thanked the General Secretary, senior leaders and people of Vietnam for their warm welcome, and admired the Vietnamese people's steadfast and indomitable spirit in the past struggle for national independence and Vietnam's remarkable achievements in economic development today.

Admiring the vision, strategy and development orientation set forth by the General Secretary and Vietnamese leaders, King Jigme of Bhutan expressed his firm belief that Vietnam will realize its development goals.

The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the positive development of the friendship between Vietnam and Bhutan over the past decade of establishing diplomatic relations. They emphasized that friendship, commonalities in culture and development philosophy are an important foundation for the two sides to continue to effectively exploit the potential and strengths of each country and promote extensive cooperation in the coming time, bringing common benefits and contributing to development, peace and stability in the region and the world.

General Secretary To Lam welcomed the results of the talks between the King of Bhutan and the President of Vietnam, in which the two sides agreed to continue to further strengthen trust and connection between the two countries, increase the exchange of high-level delegations, share experiences in national governance, create breakthroughs in economic, trade and investment cooperation; further expand cooperation in environmental protection, science and technology, innovation; encourage and promote people-to-people exchanges, cultural and Buddhist exchanges, creating favorable conditions for the people of the two countries to broaden their understanding of each other.
