Speaking with VietNamNet, Ms. Tran Trieu Ha Linh - English teacher, High School for Social Sciences and Humanities , assessed that the structure of the English exam has not changed compared to previous years. However, compared to the 2023 exam, the 2024 exam is more difficult because the vocabulary questions are quite difficult, requiring students to have reading comprehension skills and guess the context of the sentence.

Students will easily get confused in the fill-in-the-blank reading passage if they do not have a firm grasp of grammar. The lessons on phonetics, stress, and error correction are quite simple and "easy" for students. "Students will lose a lot of points on vocabulary questions in the vocabulary and grammar section and the 7-sentence reading passage," Ms. Linh said.

Ms. Linh said that this exam has a high level of classification. Although there are no strange idioms or proverbs like last year, the vocabulary is more difficult. The common score is around 6-6.5 points.

"With this exam, the number of exams scoring 9 or higher will not be as high as last year," the female teacher assessed.

Commenting on the exam, Ms. Pham Thi Mai Huong - Deputy Head of the English Department, Foreign Language Specialized High School (University of Foreign Languages, Hanoi National University), said that the exam closely followed the sample exam structure, including 50 multiple choice questions, testing the synthesis of knowledge of phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, communication, reading comprehension and writing sentences mainly in the 11th and 12th grade curriculum.

The test consists of 70-75% of questions at the knowledge-comprehension level, and about 25-30% at the application and high application levels. The knowledge content asked in the test is mostly from the curriculum. If candidates have mastered the basic phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary in the textbook, they can complete 60-70% of the test.

The difficult knowledge section mainly falls into vocabulary questions, questions about finding antonyms/phrases, sentence combinations and reading comprehension. With test code 409, to get a high score, candidates need to have a good vocabulary to answer questions at a high application level (such as questions 13, 15, 18, 19, 49) and the ability to do the test carefully to avoid mistakes in grammar questions that are not difficult but easily confusing (such as questions 1, 4, 12, 44, 47).

The content of the reading passage is familiar to students, however, it will cause difficulties for students in the application and high-level application questions (such as questions 31, 35, 36, 40, 41, 41). The questions at the recognition level such as the phonetics section, the group of grammar recognition questions (testing the past continuous tense, past simple, tag questions, simple passive sentences, articles, superlatives, word forms, type 2 conditional sentences, etc.) are all knowledge in the general education program.

Although there are no overly difficult or challenging questions, the test still has some questions that can classify good and excellent students. To achieve good and excellent scores, students still need to have a firm grasp of phonetics, grammar, and a rich vocabulary and do the test carefully, eliminating distracting options. The average score for the English test in the 2024 graduation exam is expected to be around 6-6.5 points.

The 2024 high school graduation exam will be organized basically stably as in the 2020-2023 period. Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training has given general instructions, with provinces/centrally-run cities taking the lead in all exam organization work in their localities.

The examination councils will organize the exams on June 26, 27, and 28; mark the exams from June 29; announce the exam results at 8:00 a.m. on July 17, and consider recognizing high school graduation on July 19.
