VTC NewsVTC News19/08/2024

As of noon on August 19, nearly 200 universities announced their admission scores for 2024, of which the highest-scoring majors were History Pedagogy and Literature Pedagogy of Hanoi National University of Education with 29.3 points (average 9.76 points per subject).

9.5 points/subject still failed Pedagogy

In previous years, the benchmark scores for the Literature, History, and Geography Pedagogy groups were higher than those for the Natural Science Pedagogy groups, but the gap was not too large, especially for Mathematics Pedagogy. However, this year there is a big difference in the score range. Not to mention, these majors have set additional criteria that candidates must achieve a score of 29.3 and must also make a first choice to be admitted.

Meanwhile, also at Hanoi National University of Education, the Mathematics Education major only has 27.47 points. The benchmark scores for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology Education majors are 26 - 27 points.

This is also similar in pedagogical schools or multidisciplinary universities that train teachers. For the University of Education - Hanoi National University or Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 ( Vinh Phuc ), Thai Nguyen Pedagogical University, Hue Pedagogical University, the highest entrance score is above 28, almost reaching 29.

Or at a small university like Hoa Lu University (Ninh Binh), the benchmark score for Preschool Education is up to 27.97. All increased compared to last year.

The benchmark score for Pedagogy industry increased due to many reasons:

Firstly, this year the number of candidates in group C increased by about 20,000 compared to 2023. The average score of the three subjects in 2023 was 18.97 points, which increased by 1.98 points to 20.95 points in 2024. If considering the good and excellent scores, the number of candidates increased even more. At the 24 point level, in 2023 there were 33,459 candidates, in 2024 it doubled.

Meanwhile, the number of candidates achieving excellent scores has increased "horribly". At the score of 27, in 2023 there were 6,041 candidates, in 2024 the number of candidates achieving this score increased 4 times. The number of candidates achieving 28 points increased 6 times compared to 2023, 29 points increased more than 10 times. The number of candidates from 29 points to 30 points in 2024 increased more than 54 times compared to 2023.

Second, according to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, the number of applications for the Pedagogy group this year increased by 85% compared to last year. Especially at Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Pedagogical University, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2, the increase was about double.

Meanwhile, the target was tightened by the Ministry, only equivalent to last year, compared to the year before, it decreased sharply, partly because many provinces and cities did not order teacher training according to Decree 116 (2020).

Those are the two reasons why the benchmark scores of many majors and schools in the Pedagogical sector have increased rapidly. Many schools that had average benchmark scores last year have failed majors with 9.5 points per subject this year.

Social block benchmarks skyrocket

Not only Pedagogy, Journalism, Public Relations... majors recruiting students with block C and D also have a leap in scores.

The school with the record increase in admission scores this year is Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture. Last year, the admission scores for all majors at this school were only 15 - 24.24 points. This year, the admission scores for all majors range from 22 to 27.85 points, and 6 majors have admission scores of 26 points or higher.

Compared to 2023, the benchmark scores of many majors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture increased sharply such as: Library Information increased by 8 points; Museum Studies increased by 8.5 points; Cultural Heritage Management and Tourism Development increased by 7.5 points; Ethnic Minority Culture increased by 7 points, the remaining majors increased from 3 - 5.5 points.

This year, the Diplomatic Academy has 8 majors recruiting the C00 combination, all of which have a standard score of block C above 28 points. Meanwhile, the standard scores of other combinations in the same major are much lower (only above 25 or above 26 points).

Or Hanoi Law University, the highest benchmark score of this school is block C00, Economic Law, with 28.85 points; Law 28.15 points, much higher than other groups in the same major.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) has a benchmark score for all majors ranging from 22 to 28.8 points. In particular, the average benchmark score for majors in the C00 group has increased by 2-3 points compared to the benchmark score in 2023. In particular, the Religious Studies major has increased by 5 points in the C00 group.

The majors with the highest benchmark scores at the University of Culture this year are all in the C00 group, with 5 majors requiring over 28 points, including: Journalism, Tourism and Travel Services Management, Cultural Studies, Art Studies and History. Of which, the Journalism major needs to achieve an average of 9.6 points per subject to be admitted.

Similarly, many majors had a benchmark score of 15 or 16 last year, which jumped to 25 points this year. For example, the Vietnamese Studies major at Hanoi National University of Education had a benchmark score of 16.4 two years ago, but this year it "turned into a dragon" with a benchmark score of 25.07.

The benchmark scores of many major universities such as Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City National Universities), Academy of Journalism and Propaganda are also at 9.5 points per subject, but still fail.

Explaining the sudden phenomenon, Associate Professor Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi National University) said that this year, nearly 1.1 million candidates nationwide registered to take the graduation exam. Of these, 37% registered for the natural science exam and 63% chose the social science exam.

"The rate of candidates choosing to take social science subjects is the highest in the past 7 years. This is also one of the reasons why the admission scores of social science and humanities universities have skyrocketed this year, which was predicted by the schools in advance," Associate Professor Huong said.

Technical and Pharmaceutical Blocks Maintain Heat

In the past 5 years, the admission scores for universities in the fields of Engineering, Information Technology, Medicine, and Computer Science... have always maintained a top position of 27-29 points or higher.

University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), University of Technology (Hanoi National University). The majors of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence both increased their benchmark scores slightly.

For the first time, the National Economics University recruited majors in Information Security, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, and Information Systems, but the benchmark score was also up to 34.5 to nearly 36/40 - among the highest.

More notably, the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) has seen a sudden increase in the benchmark scores of many majors. Some majors in 2023 have an admission score of 17-18 this year, increasing by 3.5-6.6 points, such as: Nuclear Engineering (up 6.6 points); Materials Science (up 5.3 points); Natural Resources and Environmental Management (up 3.5 points). Meanwhile, the major with the highest benchmark score at the school is Computer Science (advanced program), which increased slightly from 28.05 last year to 28.5 points this year.

According to Associate Professor Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the admission scores for the training programs of this university are quite close to the level predicted by the school. Most candidates have taken full advantage of the opportunity to apply for admission to Hanoi University of Science and Technology by using both the Thinking Assessment (TSA) test scores and the high school graduation exam scores.

The benchmark scores for technology majors related to data, computers, and artificial intelligence are still increasing in some schools, proving that their attraction to candidates has not decreased and will continue to be a trend in the next few years.

Along with that, the majors of Medicine, Pharmacy, Marketing, and Logistics are always in the group with the highest standard scores, including schools with a tradition of training in economics as well as other schools.

For example, at the University of Commerce, the Commercial Marketing major has the highest score with 27 points, Logistics and Supply Chain Management has 26.9 points. Similarly, Customs and Logistics also have the highest entrance score at the Academy of Finance - 36.15/40 points, Marketing leads the Hue University of Economics with 23/30 points.

Hanoi Medical University scored 28.27 points for Medicine, up 0.54 points from last year. Following was Dentistry with 27.67 points, up 0.17 points. Thai Binh Medical University scored 26.17 points for Medicine, up nearly 0.4 points.

In the South, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy recorded an increase of 0.4-0.5 points in Medicine and Dentistry, up to 27.8 and 27.35 points respectively. These are also the two "hottest" majors at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine with 26.57 and 26.49 points, an increase of about 0.2 points.
