The highest medical benchmark score in the past three years at 29 universities was 28.9, the lowest was 22. Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy always lead.
This year, the country has 29 schools enrolling medical students, of which Van Lang University (HCMC) is enrolling for the first time in this field. The benchmark scores of the remaining 28 schools have fluctuated but not too much, of which Hanoi Medical University and HCMC University of Medicine and Pharmacy are always the highest.
The benchmark score for the medical major at Hanoi Medical University has been decreasing over the past three years, but has never been below 28. Last year, the school set the score at 28.15. Candidates must achieve an average of nearly 9.4 points per subject to be admitted, if they do not have priority points.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy had the second highest admission score last year at 27.55. This was also the lowest score in the past three years. Hanoi University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, also followed this trend with the admission score in 2020 at 28.35 and decreased to 27.3 last year.
In the middle, the benchmark scores of Hanoi University of Business and Technology and Nguyen Tat Thanh University (HCMC) followed the opposite trend - the highest last year with 26 and 25 points respectively.
A series of other schools such as Dai Nam University, Hong Bang International University, Vo Truong Toan University, Tan Tao University, Duy Tan University, and Nam Can Tho University have benchmark scores that have not changed over the years, remaining at 22, equal to the minimum score set by the Ministry of Education and Training for the medical industry.

This year, many universities have diversified their admissions combinations for the medical field, including those that use combinations containing Literature. However, the most commonly used combination is still B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology).
According to the score distribution of 9 subjects of the high school graduation exam announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on the morning of July 18, the average score of most subjects has not changed significantly compared to last year, except for Biology, which has changed the most, increasing by 1.37 points compared to last year's average, to 6.39. Therefore, the combined score of block B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology) also increased by 1.21 points, from an average of 18.19 to 19.4. Master Phung Quan, University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City National University, commented that the benchmark score for this combination has also increased slightly.
On July 21, the Ministry of Education and Training also announced the minimum admission score for the medical major is 22.5, 0.5 points higher than the past three years.
Regarding tuition fees , after two years of no increase, tuition fees this year at many public medical schools have increased sharply. For example, at Hanoi Medical University, tuition fees for the medical major are expected to reach 55 million VND, an increase of more than three times. The University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hanoi National University or Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine collects similar fees. The medical major of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy collects nearly 75 million VND for the next school year.
In the private school group, medical tuition fees vary from school to school, ranging from several tens to more than one hundred million VND per year. For example, Hong Bang International University tuition fees are 144 million VND for a two-semester school year. Phenikaa University charges an average of 150 million VND per year but offers a 50% discount for first-year students.
Based on the benchmark scores of the past three years and the tuition fees announced by the schools, candidates should consider registering and adjusting their wishes until 5:00 p.m. on July 30. The university benchmark scores will be announced before 5:00 p.m. on August 22.
