On January 19, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital announced that it has just deployed the new Vbeam Perfecta laser system in the treatment of hemangiomas, meeting strict standards that strongly impact the target tissue, effectively destroy pigments, and do not damage surrounding healthy tissue.
This system is considered the “gold standard” for safety and effectiveness in the treatment of vascular lesions, especially port wine stains, hemangiomas, rosacea, etc.
According to Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Le Thai Van Thanh, Head of the Department of Dermatology - Cosmetic Dermatology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, hemangioma is a congenital abnormality that appears early after birth, mainly on the face, scalp, chest, or back. This is a condition of excessive proliferation of blood vessels, a few of which are congenital at birth and the tumor gradually grows in size in the first years before regressing on its own.
Hemangiomas occur in 3% of newborns and 10% of children within the first year of life, with the incidence in girls being 3 times higher than in boys. In premature babies, the incidence of hemangiomas is 22-30%. Depending on the location and size, hemangiomas can be deformities and can even cause abnormal consequences in body functions when located in the central nervous system or spine.
Telangiectasia is a condition in which small blood vessels on the skin are dilated, usually harmless but affect aesthetics, especially when appearing on the face, it can easily cause blushing in daily activities. Port wine stains are congenital vascular malformations, while dilated and proliferated capillaries and veins often appear immediately after birth.
“Normally, hemangioma is a very difficult disease to treat. The long treatment process makes many people tired and give up, but when applying Vbeam Perfecta technology, there is a clear improvement in both the area and color of the hemangioma right after the first treatment,” Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Le Thai Van Thanh informed.
Vbeam Perfecta is a pulsed dye laser technology with the advantage of generating very high peak energy in a very short time. When irradiated on the skin, the high peak energy pulses will selectively thermally damage the target tissue (blood vessels that need to be affected) under the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue, providing effective treatment and the shortest recovery time, thereby limiting unwanted side effects.
