Dong Hoi Ward was established on the basis of merging 8 wards and communes with a natural area of over 41km2 and a population of 84,196 people. This is the area where political , economic, cultural and social agencies and organizations of the province are concentrated, and is the nucleus in the central urban development structure of the new Quang Tri province.
Talking to us, Chairman of Dong Hoi Ward People's Committee Hoang Ngoc Dan said: Inheriting the foundation of the old Dong Hoi City, in recent years, urban planning and management work in the ward has achieved important results; gradually forming a spacious and civilized central urban appearance; technical infrastructure and social infrastructure systems have been invested and upgraded more synchronously, creating a foundation for long-term development; affirming the position and stature for the overall development of the province.

In particular, planning has been paid attention to, invested in and basically completed; carefully analyzed natural conditions from coastal terrain with diverse river systems (Nhat Le River, Le Ky River...) to tropical monsoon climate conditions and rich natural resources (protective forests, marine ecosystems) to orient the harmonious development between humans and nature.
Many social infrastructure development projects have been invested in, such as: Traffic, lighting, water supply and drainage, schools, healthcare , parks; many main streets have been renovated, renovated, trees planted, creating landscape highlights and improving the quality of the living environment... contributing to fundamentally changing the face of the city, improving the quality of life of the people.
Up to now, in the ward, the rate of hardened roads is 100% (asphalt roads reach over 40%); 100% of households use clean and hygienic water; 100% of main streets and alleys in residential areas are lit. Public green space in urban areas reaches 10.5m2/person. In particular, the coastal economic space has been focused on exploitation, linked with the orientation of tourism, service, trade, logistics development, opening up great opportunities for Dong Hoi to become a dynamic economic center, a gateway for trade in the region, attracting large investors to invest in high-class resorts, hotels, golf courses...
Dong Hoi's unique identity
In the context of integration and new development requirements, Dong Hoi has determined that it must overcome a number of "obstacles" to pioneer in modernizing infrastructure, building smart cities; exploiting coastal space sustainably, both developing the economy and protecting the environment, and adapting to climate change.
Dong Hoi will link and connect the planning with Dong Thuan and Dong Son wards and neighboring localities to form a synchronous and interconnected development entity, without separation or disruption in urban space. Along with that, it is important to focus on developing digital infrastructure, applying information technology in urban management and operation, towards building a smart city, best serving the needs of the people.

Therefore, the ward prioritizes promoting tree planting, creating public spaces, parks, and squares, both as places for community activities and improving the quality of the living environment... Thereby, harmoniously combining the preservation of heritage and traditional culture with modern architecture, creating a unique identity for Dong Hoi city”, Chairman of Dong Hoi Ward People's Committee Hoang Ngoc Dan shared.

To continue to improve and upgrade the urban area to ensure modernity while maintaining its own unique characteristics, Dong Hoi Park and Greenery Center continues to research, carry out the task of managing and building green spaces suitable for the central urban area of the new province.
At the same time, mobilize community resources to socialize and develop trees throughout the ward; promote production and supply of flowers, ornamental plants, and seedlings; strive to have the ratio of public green space in urban areas reach 15 square meters per person by 2030 (an increase of nearly 50% compared to present)", said Director of Dong Hoi Parks and Trees Center Le Cong Kim.
In 5 years (2020-2025), Dong Hoi Parks and Trees Center has implemented 50 projects on investment in construction, renovation of parks, campuses, trees, decorative electricity; planted nearly 5,200 new trees of all kinds; by early 2025, it will manage nearly 32,000 trees, creating shade, changing the landscape, and a different appearance from other urban areas.
To create momentum for growth, Dong Hoi also focuses on developing coastal economic space; effectively implementing mechanisms and policies to attract investment in tourism, service, trade and logistics projects that have the potential to create breakthroughs. At the same time, closely connecting with economic corridors in the region, striving to make Dong Hoi one of the trade and sea tourism centers of the Central region; at the same time, paying attention to protecting the marine environment, conserving ecosystems, linking marine economic development with social security and national defense and security.
