The provincial National Assembly delegation worked with the provincial People's Committee to supervise the topic of environmental protection.

After conducting field surveys in localities and units, this afternoon (March 19), the Provincial National Assembly Delegation worked with the Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments and branches; conducting thematic supervision on "Implementation of policies and laws on environmental protection since the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 took effect in Nghe An province".

Attending the meeting were comrades: Vo Thi Minh Sinh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Overview of the working session.

At the meeting, the Provincial People's Committee reported on the results of implementing the Law on Environmental Protection in 2020. After issuing Resolutions, Decisions, and Plans to promptly implement the provisions of the Law and guide the implementation of environmental protection work in the area, the Provincial People's Committee has organized propaganda and dissemination through many forms. Thanks to that, the awareness of compliance with environmental protection laws of organizations and individuals has been raised; the number of enterprises interested in fully implementing environmental procedures has increased; the work of preventing and minimizing sources of environmental pollution has received systematic investment; gradually raising awareness, responsibility and awareness of compliance with environmental protection laws of agencies, socio- political organizations, communities, households and individuals.

Comrade Thai Van Thanh - Director of the Department of Education and Training, Member of the Committee for Culture and Social Affairs - 15th National Assembly spoke at the working session.

Violations due to lack of understanding of environmental protection laws have decreased significantly. Compliance with environmental protection laws by infrastructure investors and facilities in economic zones and industrial parks has improved significantly. Up to now, 100% of industrial parks operating in the province have centralized wastewater treatment systems that meet environmental standards, and 100% of new investment projects have had their environmental records and procedures approved before coming into operation.

Comrade Nguyen Van Hai - Deputy Head of the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board explained and clarified the shortcomings in environmental protection work at Nam Cam Industrial Park.

However, compared to 2022, some environmental protection targets by 2024 increased slowly and will be difficult to complete by 2025 without drastic intervention from all levels and sectors.

The report of the Provincial People's Committee also clearly stated the viewpoints, objectives, and solutions to improve and effectively implement policies and laws on environmental protection. At the same time, it recommended a number of contents to the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to better implement environmental protection work.

After listening to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De and leaders of relevant departments and units report, explain and clarify a number of contents requested by the monitoring delegation, Comrade Vo Thi Minh Sinh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation requested the Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments and branches to pay attention to overcoming the shortcomings and limitations pointed out by the delegation, make efforts to complete environmental targets; Strengthen propaganda, inspection and supervision and strictly handle violations to improve the effectiveness of environmental protection work in the province. At the same time, supplement specific contents that need to be adjusted and prioritized for investment related to the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 so that the Provincial National Assembly Delegation can synthesize and complete the report to submit to the National Assembly's monitoring delegation and relevant agencies and units.
