Unique art festival of Then singing and Tinh lute of Tay, Nung, Thai ethnic groups

The festival attracted 15 delegations from provinces and cities. This is one of the highlights in the series of activities organized in the Week of "Great National Unity - Vietnamese Cultural Heritage" in 2024.

The Then singing and Tinh lute art festival of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups is a meaningful activity, aiming to honor, preserve and promote the fine traditional cultural values ​​of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in the unified and diverse culture of the community of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam.

This is also an opportunity for localities to exchange, learn, and share experiences, contributing to raising awareness and consciousness in preserving and maintaining national cultural identity, promoting the value of the representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity on "Then practice of the Tay, Nung, and Thai people in Vietnam" recognized by UNESCO.

In her opening speech, Deputy Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, Head of the Department of Ethnic Culture of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung emphasized: “The Then cultural heritage of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups in Vietnam is a unique form of folk art and culture created by working people closely associated with daily life, becoming an essential need in the spiritual life of ethnic people.

With its unique artistic values, Then has contributed to nurturing the soul, emotions, will, and aspiration to rise up and build a prosperous and happy life for the Tay, Nung, and Thai people, passed down from generation to generation.”

Also at the event, Acting Head of the Management Board of the Vietnam Ethnic Culture and Tourism Village Trinh Ngoc Chung said: "Participating in the Then singing and Tinh musical instrument art festival of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups with the theme "Preserving and promoting the Then singing and Tinh musical instrument art of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in the present period" has attracted 15 delegations from provinces and cities across the country to participate.

This is an opportunity to introduce and promote the cultural heritage values ​​of the nation to domestic and international friends, thereby honoring the unique cultural and artistic forms of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups, contributing to raising awareness of preserving, promoting, developing, and constantly creating new cultural values ​​in the period of sustainable national development, expanding international integration, and building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity."

At the Festival, Deputy Director of the Center for Culture and Tourism Promotion of Bac Can Province, Hoang Thi Hien, emotionally said: "We have made careful and thoughtful preparations, from inviting artists to participate to practicing together with 4 elaborate performances to ensure the cultural identity of Then singing art to your people and domestic and foreign tourists.

Each group participates in 3 to 4 works, including traditional singing, with Then singing developed to create richness. This is an opportunity for the Bac Can province's art troupe to exchange and learn about the art of Then singing and Tinh instrument with other provinces in the region and nationwide."

Attending the program, British tourist John Newman shared: "I have traveled to Vietnam 4 times but this is the first time I have attended an event like this. It is very unique and interesting. Many Vietnamese ethnic groups live far from the city, tourists usually have about 2 weeks to travel. They do not have enough time to go up the mountains or go far. Therefore, if the Hanoi tour includes a visit to the Cultural Village, many tourists will have an interesting experience with the culture of ethnic groups without having to go too far. ".

The 7th Then singing and Tinh lute art festival of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups in 2024, with the participation of artisans, artists, and actors who are Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups living, studying, and working in 15 provinces and cities, including: Hanoi, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Son La, Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Lam Dong with many unique performances, warm and soulful.

Within the framework of the Festival, many attractive activities also took place, such as: Exhibition space to introduce traditional cultural products of localities participating in the festival; demonstration of traditional brocade weaving and making Tinh lutes of the Tay, Nung, Thai ethnic groups; display, processing and introduction of cuisine of traditional ethnic groups; photo exhibition "Heritage of Then singing - Tinh lute art"; exhibition of the theme "Then cultural heritage in the life of the Tay, Nung, Thai ethnic groups; performance to introduce the art of Then singing and Tinh lute.
