Vietnam team ends September training session

VHO - The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said that the Vietnamese team had a practice match with the Hanoi Police Club at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center on the afternoon of September 7, concluding a training session to review and check the force, preparing for the next match in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup in October.

Because coach Kim Sang-sik is also leading the Vietnam U23 team to compete in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers, the right to lead the Vietnam team is assigned to assistant Dinh Hong Vinh.

The coaching staff reminded the players before the training session.

The team maintained training according to the curriculum and had two practice matches with quality opponents: Nam Dinh Blue Steel (V.League Champion) on September 4 and Hanoi Police (National Cup Champion) on September 7.

The first match against Nam Dinh Blue Steel is a valuable test when the opponent uses a squad of 11 foreign players, preparing for AFC Champions League Two 2025/26.

The Vietnamese team lost 0-4, a result not surprising given the superiority of the Southern team in terms of physique, fitness and experience.

In the second practice match against Hanoi Police, the Vietnamese team won 4-0 thanks to goals from Tien Linh, Tuan Hai, Viet Hung and Van Vi.

Like the previous match, coach Dinh Hong Vinh continued to divide his forces into two teams to test personnel and playing style.

The most important thing in the two practice matches is not the result of winning or losing, but the assessment of the performance of the key players, the integration level of the new players, as well as testing tactical options, thereby perfecting the preparation for the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

The players have had two quality practice matches.

In the September 2025 gathering, the Vietnam national team called up 24 players. Besides familiar faces such as Quang Hai, Hoang Duc, Duy Manh, Thanh Chung, Tien Linh..., the coaching staff also gave opportunities to many new factors including striker Pham Gia Hung, defender Tran Hoang Phuc and young center back Dinh Quang Kiet.

However, the team's strength has changed when midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan had to withdraw due to injury.

In addition, Quang Hai and Hai Long could not participate due to injury. To supplement, head coach Kim Sang-sik called left-back Phan Du Hoc (HAGL).

According to plan, the Vietnamese team will gather again during FIFA Days in October, playing two matches with the Nepal team in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.
