After winning the AFF Cup 2024 championship in Thailand, Xuan Son and the Vietnamese team returned home on the afternoon of January 6.

In the final of the AFF Cup 2024, the Vietnamese team defeated Thailand with a total score of 5-3 after 2 matches: winning 2-1 in the first leg and 3-2 in the second leg. This is the 3rd time the "Golden Star Warriors" have won the title at the number 1 tournament in Southeast Asia for the national team. The championship journey of coach Kim Sang-sik and his team was also completely convincing when they were undefeated throughout the tournament: 7 wins, 1 draw.

At around 2:30 p.m., the members of the Vietnamese team arrived at Noi Bai Airport ( Hanoi ). Many Vietnamese fans had been waiting early to congratulate the great achievement of coach Kim Sang-sik and his team.

Among the members of the Vietnamese team, Xuan Son’s condition received special attention. In the 32nd minute of the second leg of the final, the Vietnamese striker was injured and had to leave the field, and was immediately taken to the hospital. At the hospital, doctors diagnosed him with a fracture of both bones in his right shin, requiring a long-term treatment and recovery process.

Upon arrival at Noi Bai Airport, Xuan Son still appeared to be in great pain. The 27-year-old striker was then picked up by an ambulance at the airport. It is expected that Xuan Son will undergo surgery at the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, Vinmec International General Hospital. This is an excellent Sports Medicine Center, according to the standards of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) - the highest standard system for medical facilities and hospitals providing optimal health care for Asian football players.

After surgery, Xuan Son is expected to need 5-8 months to fully recover from the injury. If he recovers well, the 27-year-old player can return to the field by the end of this year.

Xuan Son received special care on the flight back to Vietnam.
