Dong Nai overcomes the consequences of a tornado that damaged more than 140 hectares of crops.

On the morning of October 21, dozens of households in Thuan Loi commune (Dong Nai) and local authorities were urgently overcoming the consequences of the natural disaster caused by a tornado on the afternoon of October 18.

According to preliminary statistics of the People's Committee of Thuan Loi commune, the total number of damaged households is about 67 households in Thuan Binh hamlet, Thuan Tien hamlet and Thuan Hoa 2 hamlet with a total area of ​​about 143.2 hectares. Specifically, the tornado affected 81.3 hectares of rubber plantation; 57.3 hectares of cashew; 3.1 hectares of durian; 1.5 hectares of pepper and 1 household had its roof blown off.

Previously, in Thuan Loi commune, there was a heavy rain accompanied by a tornado that caused flooding in some low-lying areas and traffic roads in hamlets. The tornado broke and felled crops and blew off roofs of houses in Thuan Binh, Thuan Tien, and Thuan Hoa 2 hamlets. Immediately after that, the People's Committee of Thuan Loi commune directed the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue to preside over and coordinate with the hamlet committees of the affected hamlets to deploy disaster prevention and rescue work, review and count the damage to the people.

The family of Mr. Ha Van Sau in Thuan Tien hamlet had many durian trees and pig pens broken and felled by the tornado. In addition, Mr. Sau's family suffered heavy damage to their cashew garden of about 1 hectare.

Mr. Ha Van Sau shared that the tornado came so suddenly that his family did not have time to reinforce the barn. Many crops were severely damaged, especially durian trees that were about to flower and cashew trees. His family is also urgently working to stabilize their lives.

Mr. Ha Xuan Dinh, Head of Thuan Tien Hamlet (Thuan Loi Commune) said: "In Thuan Tien Hamlet, the tornado caused damage to rubber, durian, and cashew trees of the people in a very large area. The most severely damaged crop area is durian. Many households' gardens are now being sawed off because the few remaining trees in the garden must be cut down to plant new ones. We are also continuing to grasp the damaged area to report to superiors as well as mobilize the villagers, those with damaged trees to gradually overcome the consequences of the natural disaster."

According to Vice Chairman of Thuan Loi Commune People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Cuong, currently, the Commune People's Committee continues to direct the Economic Department to coordinate with agencies, units, and hamlets to synthesize and make a record of inventory of damaged assets and crops to have accurate data to prepare a file to request support in accordance with regulations.

Thuan Loi Commune People's Committee requests the Department of Finance and the Department of Agriculture and Environment to consider, coordinate, guide, and support funding, plant varieties, and techniques to promptly support households with damaged housing and crops according to regulations on agricultural production support policies to restore production in areas damaged by natural disasters. At the same time, orient, have solutions, and apply science and technology to support localities and people to soon stabilize their lives and produce sustainable agriculture.
