4.5 hectares of jackfruit of a household in Vinh Chau commune were submerged by floodwaters.

4.5 hectares of jackfruit trees planted for more than 15 months, ready to bear fruit, of a household in Vinh Chau commune were submerged by floodwaters. Although the family proactively reinforced the dike to protect it, they had to give up due to water pressure, causing billions of dong in damage.

Mr. Do Minh Sang (Vinh Chau commune) said: “The family proactively reinforced the dike, but the water level rose rapidly. At about 2 a.m. on October 9, a section of the dike broke, submerging all of the more than 3,000 jackfruit trees. After the incident, the family proactively repaired the broken dike and hired more than a dozen pumps to drain the water to save the jackfruit. About 5 days later, when the water level had almost receded, another section of the dike broke, and the family had to give up.”

According to information from the People's Committee of Vinh Chau commune, up to now, the commune has nearly 6,600 hectares of 20-40-day-old Autumn-Winter rice crop in 2025, and more than 1,300 hectares of 10-15-day-old Winter-Spring rice crop in 2025-2026.

Most of the dike lines in the commune have overflow sections, which farmers have reinforced themselves, basically ensuring a height of 20-40cm, with a total length of more than 120km. Of which, the longest affected dike line is the 1/6 line with a length of 6.6km, the T1 line with a length of 14km, and the T2 line with a length of 14km.

In particular, in recent days, the water level rose rapidly, causing a section of the dike to break and many sections of the dike to overflow. The locality mobilized forces and means to coordinate with people to promptly overcome the situation, reducing the damage to hundreds of hectares of rice.

Local authorities promptly mobilized vehicles and forces to respond to broken dike sections to protect rice.

According to Vice Chairman of Vinh Chau Commune People's Committee Mai Van Cam, in the past week, due to prolonged rain and storms, the water level rose rapidly. In this situation, the locality assigned the regular militia force, the police to coordinate with cooperatives, cooperatives and people to mobilize 13 Kobe vehicles to reinforce the dike system to protect this area. In the coming time, the rain and floods will continue to be complicated, the locality will assign cadres in charge of the area, divide into teams to monitor the dikes, and spread out motor vehicles in the hamlets to prevent incidents from occurring so that they can be proactively resolved immediately.

Currently, the authorities and people of Vinh Chau commune are focusing on monitoring the developments of rain and flood situations to take response measures when incidents occur, minimizing damage./.
