According to the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), from January to June this year, nearly 690 million tourists traveled internationally, an increase of about 33 million compared to last year.
Vietnam records leading tourism growth rate in Asia- Pacific region in first half of 2025

Most regions recorded positive growth. Africa grew by 12%, with North Africa (+14%) and Sub-Saharan Africa (+11%) both achieving double-digit growth. Europe welcomed nearly 340 million visitors, up 4% from 2024 and 7% higher than 2019. Central and Eastern Europe increased strongly (+9%) but was still 11% lower than before the pandemic. The Americas increased by 3%, with South America standing out with a growth of 14%, while North America and the Caribbean remained almost unchanged.
Notably, the Asia- Pacific region grew by 11% but still recovered only 92% compared to pre-Covid-19 levels. Northeast Asia led the way with a 20% increase, but still at a recovery level 8% lower than in 2019.
In that context, UN Tourism said that Japan and Vietnam were the two destinations with the best results with impressive growth (+21%). According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), the number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first 6 months of the year reached nearly 10.7 million, an increase of 21% over the same period in 2024 and 25.7% higher than the same period in 2019 before the pandemic.
In addition to the number of visitors, monthly statistics from UN Tourism also show that many destinations have achieved impressive growth in international tourism revenue, notably: Japan (+18%), UK (+13%), France (+9%), Spain (+8%) and Türkiye (+8%).
Major markets with strong growth in outbound tourism spending include China (+16%), Spain (+16%), the UK (+15%), Singapore (+10%) and South Korea (+8%). Previously, in 2024, global international tourism revenue reached a record $1,734 billion, 14% higher than before the pandemic.
The UN Tourism Expert Panel's Confidence Index shows an improvement of 120 points for the September-December period (out of 200), up slightly from 114 points for the May-August period. About 50% of experts expect the outlook for the final quarter of the year to be better, 33% expect it to remain similar to 2024, while 16% fear the situation will worsen.
Despite the uncertainties, global tourism demand is expected to remain stable until the end of the year. UN Tourism maintains its forecast for global tourism growth of 3-5% in 2025.
