Previously on September 20, while patrolling about 1 nautical mile from Hon Chuoi Island, the working group discovered a fishing boat led by Mr. Dang Hung Son (51 years old, residing in Song Doc commune, Ca Mau province) towing a fishing boat that was almost completely sunk. The border guards quickly approached and assisted in towing it back to the island.

Through verification, the ship in distress has registration number CM 91554 TS, captained by Mr. Bui Xo Na (42 years old, residing in Song Doc commune).

Mr. Na said that at about 2:40 p.m. on September 18, while operating 14 nautical miles northeast of Hon Chuoi, the ship was suddenly sunk by a large wave. There were 5 fishermen on board, fortunately rescued by a friendly ship in time, and their health is stable.

To salvage the ship, Hon Chuoi Border Guard Station coordinated with Lung Lo Company to mobilize an 80-ton crane to pull the ship out of the water and pump out the water. By the morning of September 21, the ship was successfully rescued and towed to shore for repairs.

The cause of the sinking was determined to be large waves and strong winds. Damage was estimated at around 500 million VND.
