Building a clean food brand from a small kitchen

The entrepreneurial journey of Ms. Nguyen Trang (born in 1987, in Thanh Khe, Da Nang City) began with the belief that "if you do it for real, consumers will recognize it".

From a small kitchen, she created the Gisa Vina brand, where each piece of beef sausage or tofu contains the passion of the craftsman.

Clean food - a challenging path

Recalling the time when she started her business in 2018, Ms. Nguyen Trang said with sparkling eyes: "I started my business from a very simple question: Can I make safe, additive-free dishes for my own family? And then I started from the smallest things, choosing ingredients, trying out cooking methods, learning how to preserve naturally."

Having graduated from Food Technology and having nearly 10 years of experience working in enterprises such as Kinh Do, VinMart, etc., Ms. Trang clearly understands the process of industrial-scale food production. Instead of choosing to start with sophisticated products, she started with two familiar dishes on the family dinner table: beef sausage and tofu. "I think, if I do well with familiar things, I will gradually build trust."

Establishing a business, opening a factory, buying machinery, and finding outlets are big challenges for entrepreneurs. For Ms. Trang, the journey is many times more difficult because of an unchanging principle: no additives, no preservatives, no colorants. And this means: short shelf life, difficult to preserve, unable to distribute long-term storage like many other models. She said: "I had to adjust my strategy: produce fresh every day, deliver regularly to agents to minimize inventory risks. Don't chase output, just keep quality as the foundation."

Starting from zero: not strong in capital, unknown brand but Ms. Trang determined, with clean food, the most important thing is not speed but trust. She chose to be transparent about the whole process, sharing information clearly. Customers feel the truth, they will become the ones to spread it.

Make your mark on your startup through competitions

Gisa Vina's products still maintain the original motto: Fresh processing every day, choosing ingredients with clear origins, no chemicals, no colorants. Gisa beef rolls are made from 100% fresh meat, marinated with traditional spices, wrapped in banana leaves, tied with bamboo strings, recalling memories of the old home kitchen. Tofu is made from non-GMO soybeans, no mixes, no preservatives. For Ms. Trang, each batch of tofu and rolls contains so much passion for a delicious, warm family meal and perhaps it is that sincerity that creates the "Gisa flavor" - the flavor of peace of mind.

2022 marked a special milestone for Ms. Trang when she won the first prize in the "Women's Creative Entrepreneurship" contest at the district level and continued to win the third prize at the Da Nang city level organized by the Da Nang Women's Union. "Not only is it a joy, this award gives me more motivation and networking opportunities. Since then, I have been invited to participate in markets and fairs, received media support, and especially met many other creative female entrepreneurs," said Ms. Trang. The competitions not only open up market opportunities, but also affirm the value of Gisa products, although small in scale, but with a clear direction, coming from the heart.

While starting a business and raising a young child, Ms. Trang admitted that the biggest challenge for her was not only the market or capital but also maintaining balance. Family, career dreams... everything had to be done simultaneously, calculated and shared. Fortunately, she always received support from the Women's Union at all levels. Not only supporting products, the Union also accompanied her throughout the activities: connecting consumption, supporting communication, organizing training on management and business skills. "I am grateful to you, ladies, who not only helped me expand the consumer market, but also helped me believe that I was not alone on this journey."

For those who are thinking about starting a business, Trang shares: "If you have thought about it, then start. Even if it is small, do it, don't wait until you have enough conditions to do it, because starting a business is a journey of learning. Do it, stumble, fix it, then continue." For her, the most important thing is not to do it big, but to do it for real, to do it well with your product. And don't forget that you can seek support from family, friends, organizations... The important thing is that you need to speak up, share, there will be arms outstretched to help you continue.

On her entrepreneurial journey, Ms. Trang always holds a belief: As long as you do it right, cleanly, and truly, consumers will feel it. From a small kitchen, the Gisa brand, with beef sausage and tofu, has become a trusted choice for many consumers.
