Iraq extends oil deal, adds preferential terms for Jordan

Iraq has extended its agreement with Jordan for another year to supply the country with 10,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil on preferential terms, the Iraqi oil ministry said earlier this month.

In a statement, Iman Awwad, head of the Petroleum Authority at the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, confirmed that fuel imports from Iraq had resumed via tankers to Jordan. The official added that a total of 422 tankers had been loaded with Iraqi oil, of which 300 had docked at Jordanian ports.

Oil imports from Iraq resumed after a suspension of several weeks starting on April 1. The oil purchase agreement between Iraq and Jordan was supposed to be automatically renewed at the end of March, but the agreement was not reached and Jordanian imports were suspended in early April. By early May, Jordan held extensive talks with the Iraqi government to resume oil imports.
