* Pig prices in the Northern region increased slightly last week.

Of which, live pigs in Lao Cai and Ha Nam provinces are being purchased at 58,000 VND/kg, an increase of one price compared to last week.

After increasing by 1,000 VND/kg, 59,000 VND/kg is the transaction price recorded in Hung Yen province - equal to the localities of Thai Nguyen, Thai Binh and Hanoi.

57,000 - 58,000 VND/kg is the price range recorded in the remaining localities.

Pig price today in the North is around 57,000 - 59,000 VND/kg.

* The live pig market in the Central and Central Highlands regions increased and decreased in opposite directions last week.

Of which, live pigs in Quang Binh province were purchased at 57,000 VND/kg, down one price.

In contrast, Quang Tri province raised the transaction price by 2,000 VND/kg to 56,000 VND/kg.

58,000 VND/kg and 59,000 VND/kg are the transaction prices in Nghe An and Thanh Hoa respectively after increasing by 1,000 VND/kg. The remaining localities did not record any new fluctuations.

Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 56,000 - 59,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices in the South increased and decreased by 1,000 - 3,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, Vinh Long province adjusted down 3,000 VND/kg to 56,000 VND/kg. Soc Trang province reduced the purchase price by 2,000 VND/kg to 57,000 VND/kg - equal to Dong Thap province after increasing the price.

Live pigs in Ho Chi Minh City, Hau Giang and Bac Lieu were purchased at VND58,000/kg, down VND1,000 - 2,000/kg. This is also the transaction price in Can Tho after increasing by VND1,000/kg.

After increasing by VND2,000/kg, Ben Tre province is purchasing at VND59,000/kg. Dong Nai and Long An provinces both increased by VND2,000/kg to VND60,000/kg. The remaining localities have been trading stably over the past week.

* Recently, pork prices in some countries in the region (such as China, Thailand, Cambodia...) have increased, causing domestic pork prices to also increase. In addition, food consumption demand has also begun to increase during the tourist season.

The increase in the price of live pigs has led to an increase in the price of pork in markets and supermarkets. The increase in the price of pork is a good sign for pig farmers after a long period of selling prices always being below the cost price.

However, with this price, people can only break even or make a small profit. Therefore, the authorities of Thai Nguyen province recommend that people should not re-raise or increase their herds massively, but should carefully monitor market developments to maintain a reasonable number of livestock, suitable for the scale of the barn.
