The ancient stele at Dau pagoda, Thi Duc village (Nhat Tan commune, now Nhat Quang commune) records the first name of Gia Loc district as Truong Tan.

On the afternoon of April 22, Gia Loc district agreed on the proposed new name plan for 4 administrative units after the rearrangement. Compared to the plan, there were changes: Gia Loc 1 commune was changed to Gia Loc commune, Gia Loc 2 commune to Yet Kieu commune, Gia Loc 3 commune to Gia Phuc commune, Gia Loc 4 commune to Truong Tan commune.

The new names are based on the history of formation and development of Gia Loc district and are associated with historical figures who are natives with great contributions to the cause of building and defending the country.

According to the book "Dong Khanh Geography" in 1886 - 1888, Gia Loc district from the post-Ly dynasty to the Tran dynasty, the Ming dynasty, and the early Le dynasty were all called Truong Tan district. The oldest stele of the district, currently at Dau pagoda, Thi Duc village, Nhat Quang commune, dated Khai Huu year 3, Tan Mui (1331), also recorded the same. In the 10th year of Quang Thuan (1469), Truong Tan district was renamed Gia Phuc district, belonging to Ha Hong prefecture, Hai Duong province. In the Tay Son dynasty, due to the taboo of the word Phuc, Gia Phuc district was renamed Gia Loc district. Thus, through the periods, Gia Loc had the names Truong Tan, Gia Phuc and Gia Loc.

Yet Kieu's real name was Pham Huu The. Since childhood, he was good at swimming. When he grew up, he followed Tran Hung Dao. During the resistance war against the invading Yuan-Mongol army, he made many achievements and was awarded the title of Tran Dynasty's Right General, First Commander of the Navy, and Marquis.

After his death, King Tran ordered the people of Ha Bi hamlet to build a temple to worship him, honoring him as the village's tutelary god, and was granted royal titles by successive dynasties. Currently, he is worshiped at his hometown, Quat temple, Yet Kieu commune (Gia Loc).
