Gasoline prices increased, some types increased by more than 400 VND/liter

(Dan Tri) - During the adjustment period on August 28, gasoline prices rebounded. Since the beginning of the year, RON 95 gasoline has increased 20 times and decreased 16 times.

On the afternoon of August 28, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade jointly announced changes in retail gasoline prices. The effective time is from 3:00 p.m. the same day.

The regulatory agency decided to increase the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline by VND310/liter and RON 95 gasoline by VND270/liter. After adjustment, the retail price of E5 RON 92 gasoline is VND19,770/liter and RON 95 gasoline is VND20,360/liter.

Similarly, oil prices also increased during this period. Specifically, diesel increased by 450 VND/liter to 18,350 VND/liter, kerosene increased by 410 VND/liter to 18,220 VND/liter; fuel oil increased by 150 VND/kg to 15,260 VND/kg. The management agency still maintained that it would not draw from or spend the price stabilization fund.

Thus, domestic gasoline prices have increased for two consecutive sessions. Currently, this fuel price is at a low level in more than 4 years, equivalent to June 2021. Since the beginning of the year, RON 95 gasoline has increased 20 times, decreased 16 times. Diesel has increased 17 times, decreased 17 times and remained unchanged once.

The fuel price stabilization fund of some key enterprises still recorded a large positive level because this fund has not been used in many recent management periods. The fund balance as of the end of the first quarter was more than 6,079 billion VND. Of which, the balance at the Vietnam National Petroleum Group ( Petrolimex ) accounted for half, at 3,082 billion VND.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is seeking comments on a draft Circular regulating the roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels in Vietnam. The Ministry proposes that in phase 1 (from January 1, 2026 to 2030), all gasoline blended, mixed, and sold for use in gasoline vehicles nationwide will be E10 gasoline.

Phase 2 (from the beginning of 2031), all gasoline blended, mixed, and sold for use in gasoline vehicles nationwide will be E15 gasoline or bio-gasoline with other blending ratios prescribed by the Minister of Industry and Trade.

Previously, from August 1, the two largest petroleum enterprises in the country, Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) and Vietnam Oil Corporation (PV Oil), said they would pilot the sale of E10 gasoline in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Hai Phong.

Petrolimex will pilot the sale of E10 gasoline at 36 gas stations in Ho Chi Minh City (before the merger). PV Oil will pilot the sale of this gasoline at 4 gas stations in Hanoi and 2 in Hai Phong. The gas stations selected to pilot the sale of E10 RON 95 gasoline will stop selling E5 RON 92 gasoline.
