Mr. Dang Quoc Can, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Giong Rieng Commune, Deputy Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, said that this year's activities were designed to be rich, both solemn and intimate, to commemorate the merits of the People's Armed Forces Hero Mai Thi Nuong and to arouse pride among the people, especially the young generation.
The festival kicked off on October 5 with a “Full Moon Festival” for children. Then, on October 8, there was a women’s volleyball tournament with the participation of 12 teams from departments, agencies, organizations and schools in the area. On October 10, a mini boat race took place on the Giong Rieng River in Noi O Hamlet.
From October 10 to 12, there will be an exhibition with 20 booths, including 10 booths of OCOP products, local specialties and 10 booths of communes and businesses.
At the Mai Thi Nuong Monument, there is a space to introduce images about the life and career of People's Armed Forces Hero Mai Thi Nuong, an exhibition of art and calligraphy books, and a mobile library vehicle to serve students.
The central streets of Giong Rieng commune are brightly decorated with flags and banners welcoming the Festival.
On October 11, at the Memorial House, activities such as folk games and a comprehensive art program with the participation of artists from the province and Ho Chi Minh City took place. On this occasion, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes for the OCOP competition and gave bicycles to poor students who overcame difficulties.
On the morning of October 12, a memorial incense offering ceremony was held at the Memorial House of People's Armed Forces Hero Mai Thi Nuong.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa (68 years old), residing in Noi O hamlet, Giong Rieng commune, said: "People cleaned up and hung flags; my children and grandchildren also participated in mini dragon boat racing to create a joyful atmosphere for the festival."
Phan Thi Nhu Y, a 10T1 student at Giong Rieng High School, said: “Before the festival, we cleaned and swept the grounds of the Memorial House of People's Armed Forces Hero Mai Thi Nuong. My friends and I are happy and proud to have contributed a small part in preparing for the meaningful 65th anniversary traditional festival.”
