Preserving cultural identity

(BLC) - Along the majestic Da River, the Thai people in Le Loi Commune (Nam Nhun District) have many cultural features associated with their daily lives and passed down through generations. However, over time, these traditional features have gradually disappeared. To preserve them, the Party Committee and the commune government have implemented many solutions to preserve their cultural identity.

Le Loi Commune - home to the Thai people with 5 villages, 350 households, more than 1,500 people. This is the place located at the intersection of three rivers (Da River, Nam Na River, Nam Lay Stream), so the people's lives are closely linked to the river. Since then, many cultural features have gradually formed: stilt houses, Com shirts, fan dance, Xoe dance, To Ma Le or the custom of living with the son-in-law, the custom of Choc San... To preserve the identity, the commune promotes propaganda to raise people's awareness, mobilizing people to preserve cultural beauty. The commune also studies the cultural features that are being lost to restore them to suit today's life. Build communal and village art teams, plan playgrounds, practice traditional sports .

Understanding the value of tradition, the villagers actively preserve and educate their children not to forget their roots. The art troupe is gradually rejuvenated, regularly practicing folk songs and dances, and learning about folk games. During Tet, the commune organizes cultural and sports exchanges, dancing and bamboo dancing among the villages, enhancing national solidarity. Especially the swallow-tail boat racing, which attracts many teams to participate and achieve many achievements when competing in and outside the province. In addition, the people also maintain the King Le Thai To Temple Festival, which is held annually to promote culture and community tourism.

Bad customs and social evils have been eliminated, and people's cultural life has gradually improved. People have promoted production, united, and helped each other in all tasks, especially sharing experiences in farming, raising livestock, building economic models, and providing capital and seeds for startups. This has contributed to reducing the poverty rate of the commune to only 12% in 2023, with an average income of 28.5 million VND/person/year.

Mr. Lo Van Tinh (Co Mun village) said: "Currently, traditional cultural features are always preserved and promoted by the people in the village. Each family keeps their traditional Com and Black Indigo shirts to wear on holidays and Tet, dance together, play folk games such as throwing con, pushing sticks, to ma le... I also regularly propagate to neighbors and relatives near and far to always preserve their ethnic identity."

Not only preserving the identity but also promoting the movement of building a cultural life. Currently, the commune has 3/5 villages achieving the title of cultural village, 188 households achieving the title of cultural family for 3 consecutive years.

Mr. Luong Van Son - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Le Loi commune said: "In the coming time, to preserve the traditional cultural identity of the nation, the People's Committee of the commune will continue to do a good job of propaganda, mobilizing people to unite and unanimously preserve cultural identity, repel social evils; regularly organize cultural exchanges and traditional sports between villages; maintain the village art troupes, increase participation in cultural festivals organized by the district and province, contributing to enhancing the value of the cultural identity of the Thai people".
