TPO - Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized this at the meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and representatives of outstanding teachers and education managers nationwide, on the occasion of Vietnam Teachers' Day, November 20.

On the afternoon of November 15, on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with 60 outstanding teachers representing more than 1.6 million teachers nationwide.

From 251 outstanding teachers and managers in 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training has selected 40 outstanding teachers and managers representing more than 1.6 million teachers and managers at all levels nationwide to meet the Prime Minister. In addition, there are 20 outstanding teachers and managers from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

The meeting demonstrated the deep concern of the Prime Minister and Party and State leaders for teachers in particular and the education and training career in general.

This is a great source of encouragement for teachers across the country; at the same time, it shows respect, gratitude and honor for teachers and the teaching profession in the career of "cultivating people".

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that this is a good annual event, carrying profound meaning for the team of teachers and education managers.

This year is the fourth year that the Prime Minister continues to maintain and devote time to this event. This is truly a great source of encouragement, care and support from the Prime Minister for the education sector in general and for teachers and education managers in particular.

The Minister said that up to now, including both public and non-public sectors, the whole country has 1.6 million teachers at all levels from preschool, general education, vocational training, and university.

Compared to the 2022-2023 school year, the number of teachers at all levels of preschool and general education increased by 17,000 teachers. The number of educational institution management staff decreased by more than 700 people.

This is also the school year that localities actively organize teacher recruitment, while simultaneously streamlining and reducing the number of school administrators and staff.

Along with that, the pedagogical capacity of most teachers has been improved, basically adapting to the requirements of innovation in content and teaching methods to implement the 2018 general education program.

However, according to the Minister of Education and Training, besides the existing challenges, one of the biggest challenges of this period is creating a legal corridor to ensure the role, position and rights of teachers, especially developing teachers to meet the new development requirements of the country in the new period.

Deeply aware of the challenges of developing the teaching force, the Ministry of Education and Training has clearly identified short-term and long-term tasks that need to be implemented. Mr. Son said that the Ministry of Education and Training will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs to review the number of staffing quotas and the current number of teachers.

From there, the Ministry will report to the Central Government to supplement the education sector's staffing for the 2024-2025 school year in the total number of teachers supplemented by 2026 according to Decision No. 72-QD/TW of the Central Government.

Along with that, continue to direct and urge localities to organize the recruitment of enough staff assigned by competent authorities and overcome the shortage of teachers at all levels...
