For those who give "red drops", it is the joy and happiness of knowing that they have done something useful for society.
The whole family participated in voluntary blood donation
With his gentle and simple smile, Mr. Ha Van Dau (in Phu Nguyen village, Phu Rieng commune) began to tell about the opportunity to know and determine to regularly maintain blood donation to save people. Mr. Dau said: Responding to the call of the Red Cross Society, during a blood donation, he learned that he had the rare blood type O-, and at the same time witnessed the scene of a patient standing between life and death because there was no blood to transfuse, from then on he had the idea of donating blood to save people.
“Every time I donate blood, I feel happy because I have given a chance to live and helped patients overcome life and death. Sharing drops of blood shows my responsibility to the community,” Mr. Dau shared.
When participating in humanitarian blood donation, blood donors receive free health check-ups and consultations; and are granted a voluntary blood donation certificate by the provincial and municipal blood donation steering committee. In addition to its honorable value, the blood donation certificate has the value of blood compensation, the maximum amount of blood compensated is equal to the amount of blood the donor has donated. This certificate is valid at hospitals and public health facilities nationwide and is valid for the lifetime of the blood donor...
Not only he but also his wife and son also donated blood. Currently, 3 members of his family have donated blood a total of 59 times, of which he donated 39 times, his wife 17 times and his son 3 times.
Mr. Ha Van Hoang, Mr. Dau's son, confided: "Seeing my parents actively donating blood, I also joined. Every time I donate blood, I feel happy and joyful to be able to contribute a small part to save the lives of patients. At the same time, it helps me realize that life is about sharing and spreading love."
During his journey of voluntary blood donation, Mr. Dau always kept in mind: "As long as I am healthy enough, I am ready to donate blood." Not only that, as the Head of the Red Cross Association of the village, he regularly mobilized and propagated to members and people to raise awareness to participate in the Blood Donation Movement in the locality. He is also a responsible member of the Rare Blood Type Club of the province. With his contributions, Mr. Dau has been awarded many certificates of merit by the Ministry of Health, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross, and the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province (old).
Happiness is giving
Despite his old age, Mr. Le Van Trung (in Phu Lam village, Phu Trung commune) still regularly spends time on a simple but humane act: donating blood voluntarily, with the thought that "giving away 'red drops' not only means sharing life but is also a way to send love and spread the spirit of humanity to the community".
Mr. Trung said: 15 years ago, while doing charity work at the hospital, he saw a scene of emergency patients needing blood but there was none, from then on he decided to donate blood until now. Previously, donating blood was very difficult, because the donation point was far from home, he had to rent a car to go from morning until evening. But now, the blood donation point is close, so whenever there is a donation session, he registers to participate and up to now he has donated blood 25 times...
“Every time I donate blood, I feel comfortable, knowing that I will save a life. My wish is to donate blood until I am past the age limit or I am no longer eligible to donate,” said Mr. Trung.
Thanks to that noble gesture, over the years, Mr. Trung has always been commended and rewarded by all levels. In particular, in February 2025, he was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc Province (old) for his achievements in the Voluntary Blood Donation Movement.
Mr. Ho Sy Xuyen, Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Phu Trung commune commented: “Mr. Le Van Trung is one of the typical individuals in the Voluntary Blood Donation Movement of the commune. He enthusiastically participates in every occasion when the association launches it. Not only does he directly donate blood, Mr. Trung also actively propagates, mobilizes, and shares his blood donation experiences with everyone, contributing to spreading the spirit of donating blood to save lives in the community.”
People who are willing to give “red drops” with the noble meaning of giving a part of their life to others. They do this in silence, without expecting gratitude from the patient. Together with the hearts of others in the community, the image of people voluntarily donating blood makes the picture of charity brighter.
