After training, at the end of 1967, Tran Cong Tinh and his comrades marched to the South, participating in the 1968 Mau Than Spring General Offensive and Uprising.

At that time, the resistance war against the US to save the country was extremely fierce. Tran Cong Tinh went to the battlefield with patriotism and the spirit of a martyr's son. He did not know which battlefield his father died on, but he always kept in mind that he had to strive to make his father proud of him. Therefore, Tran Cong Tinh fought very tenaciously, and together with his teammates, he achieved many feats. During a fierce battle, he was injured by the pressure of a bomb and a piece of shrapnel lodged in his left flank. His teammates took him to the rear for treatment. When his health recovered, Tran Cong Tinh returned to his unit to continue fighting.

Units and localities visited and presented gifts to veteran Tran Cong Tinh (third from left) on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

Mr. Tinh still remembers clearly the time his unit was ordered to move all the wounded soldiers to a liaison station 40km away from the unit to carry out the mission. Due to wartime, transportation was very difficult, so most of the wounded soldiers had to march on foot. The wounded soldiers were ordered to march from 7am, through the forest to ensure secrecy. Due to poor health and the long march, combined with a relapse of an old wound, Tran Cong Tinh fell behind.

When he was about 3km from the liaison station, Tran Cong Tinh was exhausted. At that time, a commanding officer and a soldier approached to inquire about Tinh and gave him water. Then, 4 soldiers brought a stretcher for Tinh to lie on and took him to the liaison station. Here, Tran Cong Tinh was taken care of very attentively by the doctors so his health quickly recovered. Later, when asked, we learned that the commander was comrade Dong Sy Nguyen, Commander of the Truong Son Command.

In 1971, the US-puppet launched a large-scale operation called "Lam Son 719" to cut off the support from the large rear base in the North to the battlefield in the South. Tran Cong Tinh was allowed to participate in the Route 9-Southern Laos Campaign. After that, Tran Cong Tinh and his comrades continued to participate in the liberation of Quang Tri in 1972. Thanks to his achievements in combat and work, Tran Cong Tinh was honored to be awarded the Third Class Resistance Medal and the title of Brave Soldier.

After the country was unified, Mr. Tinh was demobilized and returned to his hometown, receiving the 3/4 class disabled soldier's benefits. With the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, trained through combat, he always kept in mind "as long as he is healthy, he will contribute" and actively participated in local work.

From the Captain of Dong Trieu town (now Dong Trieu ward) to the Secretary of the Party Cell of Ward 1, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Dong Trieu town... in every position, he devoted himself to his work, excellently completed the assigned tasks and made many contributions to social work in the locality. In 2023, Mr. Tinh and his wife, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tron, were honored to receive the 55-year Party membership badge.
