Lebanon's Hezbollah Islamic Movement launched about 65 rockets into Israel on the night of September 27, just hours after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a major attack on the group's stronghold in Beirut, killing its leader Hassan Nasrallah.

A barrage of 30 rockets was launched at Safed shortly after 10 p.m., according to the IDF. Local officials said at least two rocket strikes caused significant damage in the northern city.

According to medical authorities, a 68-year-old woman was slightly injured by one of the rockets in Safed. Doctors said the woman suffered trauma from the explosion, adding that she was being evacuated to Ziv Hospital in the city.

A house in Safed was directly hit by a rocket and caught fire. Ynet reported that no one was killed in the attack as residents had evacuated to the center of the country. Photos and videos posted on social media showed firefighters at the scene trying to control the blaze.

The IDF said several Hezbollah rockets were intercepted by air defense systems.

In the early hours of September 28, a number of communities near Israel's northern border with Lebanon sounded sirens warning of a suspected drone incursion. The warnings were being sounded in cities and towns including Metzuba, Rosh HaNikra, Shlomi, Lehman, Ben Ami, Nahariya, Evron, Betzet, Gesher HaZiv and Sa'ar.

On the same day, the IDF reported that a rocket launched from Lebanon landed in the West Bank near Jerusalem, causing a fire and power outage but no casualties. The Fire and Rescue Department said it was working to extinguish a fire near the Mitzpe Hagit outpost.

The IDF said its warplanes struck several Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, continuing after a major attack on Hezbollah's leader. The new targets included rocket launchers aimed at Israel and buildings used as weapons depots. The new Israeli operation is aimed at allowing northern Israelis to return home a year after being displaced following Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel.

In response to the death of Hezbollah leader, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen declared three days of national mourning.

Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on September 28 pledged revenge for the Israeli killing of leader Nasrallah in a statement issued as he was moved to a safe location inside the country amid heightened security measures.

The move to protect Iran's top decision-maker is the latest sign of the Iranian regime's anxiety as Israel carries out a series of devastating attacks on Hezbollah.
