On March 28, VFF officially appointed coach Hoang Anh Tuan to lead U23 Vietnam to replace coach Troussier whose contract had previously ended. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's first task is to lead U23 Vietnam to participate in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship.
Coming to this continental tournament, Mr. Tuan and his colleagues will have very little time to prepare. It is expected that U23 Vietnam will gather from April 6, 1 day after round 15 of V-League 2023/2024 ends.
The 2024 AFC U23 Championship will kick off on April 15, so coach Hoang Anh Tuan and U23 Vietnam will only have 9 days to focus, practice, and travel to Qatar to participate in the tournament. This is considered a relatively short preparation time and will bring great challenges to coach Hoang Anh Tuan.
At the 2024 AFC U23 Championship, U23 Vietnam will be in Group D with Malaysia, Kuwait and Uzbekistan. If they reach the semi-finals, U23 Vietnam will qualify for the Olympic play-off against U23 Guinea. If they get one of the top three places in the tournament, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team will have a direct ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
