Indonesian newspaper says surprising things about home team and U23 Vietnam

(Dan Tri) - Suara (Indonesia) newspaper admits that Indonesian football is declining and they see U23 Vietnam as a model.

U23 Indonesia caused a big disappointment when they could not pass the qualifying round of the U23 Asian tournament. Meanwhile, U23 Vietnam easily got a ticket with a record of winning all three matches and not conceding any goals.

Commenting on the recent period, Suara newspaper wrote: "U23 Indonesia has declined miserably, while Vietnam has reached the Asian level".

In the article, the author commented on U23 Vietnam: “U23 Vietnam has a tradition in youth tournaments. They have participated in the U23 Asian tournament for the 6th consecutive time. In the 5 previous participations, the team’s achievements have been quite stable and impressive.

Even in the 2018 tournament, U23 Vietnam entered the historic final but lost to U23 Uzbekistan. Up to this point, U23 Vietnam is also the only team in Southeast Asia to reach the final of the U23 Asian tournament.

In the last two tournaments, U23 Vietnam have both made it to the quarter-finals. They have shown stability in their performance and they are growing more and more mature.”

Meanwhile, commenting on the home team, Suara newspaper wrote: “Indonesia U23 caused a shock when they entered the semi-finals in 2024 in their first time participating in the tournament. However, the rise of Indonesian football was interrupted when they caused a big disappointment when they could not pass the qualifying round of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship. In which, they drew with Laos U23, won against Macau U23 and lost to South Korea U23.

It is a pity that the U23 Indonesia squad still has 7 players who participated in the U23 Asian tournament two years ago.

Suara newspaper compared the two teams: “Vietnamese football has persisted with its youth training policy, so they have continuously reaped success. Indonesia must consider the success of Vietnamese football as a motivation to improve youth football.”

After winning a ticket to the U23 Asian tournament, U23 Vietnam will enter a very important tournament at the end of the year, the 33rd SEA Games. Then, in early January next year, the team will continue to compete in the U23 Asian tournament in Saudi Arabia.
