In the King's Cup final, Thailand suffered a 0-1 defeat to Iraq at home. This result prevented the "War Elephants" from winning their tournament championship.

Not only that, the two teams Thailand and Iraq also left a bad image with the melee at the end of the match. Iraq striker Ali deliberately kicked Chanathip in the leg, causing the "Thai Messi" to lie on the ground in pain.
Angry at his teammate being fouled, Supachok and two Thai players rushed in to fight with Ali. Iraqi players also rushed in to join in, causing a brawl on the field. One Iraqi player was found choking his opponent. Security forces had a hard time stopping the situation.
After the match, Thailand coach Masatada Ishii expressed his anger. He criticized Ali as a “player lacking class, playing without respect for opponents and colleagues”. The Japanese coach said that this type of tackle should not appear in international competitions, especially in a match that honors sportsmanship like the King's Cup.
Regarding his health, Chanathip was still able to walk to thank the fans after the match, but the extent of his injury has not been determined. The Football Association of Thailand said it will conduct a detailed medical examination to reach an accurate conclusion.

Meanwhile, on social media, a wave of criticism against Mohanad Ali exploded. Many Thai fans went to the Iraqi player’s personal page to curse, forcing him to disable comments on many posts.
Speaking about Thailand's failure to win the King's Cup, coach Masatada Ishii said: "It's a pity that we couldn't win the championship. I would like to thank the fans who came to cheer us on, both in the match against Fiji and the final match against Iraq.
The players fought with all their might, even though we only had one week to practice together. I believe that if we had more time, Thailand could have gone far in every tournament.”
After this defeat, coach Masatada Ishii is facing a high risk of being fired. In recent times, Thai fans have been very disappointed with the Japanese coach. Thailand not only missed the AFF Cup championship, they also played disappointingly in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup (losing to Turkmenistan).
