More than 100 gallstones in woman's gallbladder

Khanh Hoa A 31-year-old woman in Nha Trang City had abdominal pain in the right lower rib with fever. The surgeon removed 113 gallstones from her gallbladder.

On October 24, a representative of Hospital 22-12 said that the patient was admitted four days ago, with dull abdominal pain in the right hypochondrium, fever and nausea. The doctor discovered a large 5 cm stone, diagnosed acute cholecystitis, and indicated laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

The surgical team removed 113 stones, each the size of a pea. After the surgery, the patient was conscious, in stable health, and recovering well.

Gallstones are formed by cholesterol, bile salts and calcium, the size of the stones ranges from a few mm to a few cm. The cause is often due to a diet too high in cholesterol or biliary tract infection, worms in the bile duct, obesity, the elderly or people with diabetes...
