Over 900 billion VND to renovate Con Hen area in the middle of Huong River

Accordingly, the project's goal is to reinforce the Huong River bank embankment to prevent landslides, clear and protect flood escape corridors, expand the riverbed's surface, and limit riverbank landslide damage during the rainy season.

At the same time, the project helps to beautify the riverbank, create a clean and green landscape, highlight the Huong River, promote tourism development, and ensure a modern and civilized living environment for local people to benefit.

In terms of scale, the project will build a precast concrete embankment to reinforce and protect the surrounding area of Con Hen with a total length of about 3.2 km, including water stations for people's daily activities and drainage outlets; build a road on top of the embankment surrounding Con Hen with a length of about 2.5 km; renovate the riverbank, plant grass, trees, lighting, walking paths, landscapes, parking lots... along the riverbank; invest in Ung Binh road axis with a length of 188 m.

According to the estimate, the Con Hen renovation project belongs to group B, with a total investment cost for the road alone of about 925 billion VND (not including Phu Luu Bridge); of which compensation is more than 445 billion VND; land use area is 8.2 hectares. The project implementation period is 4 years, starting from 2026.

The Management Board of the Investment and Construction Project of Area I said that it is expected that about 6.25 hectares of residential land will be affected when implementing the project; of which about 3.72 hectares will be recovered. The number of affected households is about 267, of which about 178 main households will have to be relocated. In addition, there are about 150 lots for secondary households that need to be resettled.

Previously, on July 21, 2025, the People's Committee of Hue City issued Official Dispatch No. 9621/UBND-XDCB assigning responsibility to project management boards and relevant departments and branches to appraise, design, arrange investment capital, and renovate many items in Con Hen, Vy Da ward in the period of 2026 - 2030, worthy of being a typical tourist destination of the ancient capital of Hue.

Hen Islet is a small islet filled with alluvium in the middle of the Perfume River. The islet is located on the left side of the Hue Citadel. In ancient times, the two streams between the islet were filled with alluvium from the Perfume River and gradually dried up, so at one time Hen Islet was called "the land of dry islets".

Over time, from a small island filled with alluvium, Con Hen today has become a high land with an area of nearly 33 hectares.

Con Hen Island today is a prosperous and densely populated residential area with many spacious houses, schools, temples and pagodas. Con Hen is also considered the "Hue culinary island" with mussel rice and corn sweet soup restaurants... and is one of the tourist destinations of Hue.
