Jung Hae In is elegant at the screening of Veteran 2, the only Korean film at Cannes 2024

The crime action film I, The Executioner (Veteran 2) had its premiere at the Lumiere Theater on May 21 (local time) with the participation of director Ryu Seung Wan and two main actors Hwang Jung Min and Jung Hae In.

This is the only Korean film invited to Cannes this year.

The film debuted in the Midnight Screenings category, a non-competitive section dedicated to genres such as action, fantasy, horror, and thriller.

I, The Excutioner is the sequel to the popular 2015 film Veteran . Veteran sold nearly 14 million tickets, becoming one of the highest-grossing films in Korean cinema history.

According to Yonhap News , part 2 of the film will expose problems in Korean society, including loopholes in the judicial system, fake news on the Internet...

The film will also help viewers reflect on the blurred line between good and evil, as well as the importance of distinguishing between them in today's society.

Veteran 2 is more than 2 hours long, right after it ended, the audience stood up and applauded enthusiastically and cheered for the film crew. The applause lasted continuously for 5 minutes and 26 seconds.

Director Ryu Seung Wan said emotionally, "I'm very happy to be presenting this film for the first time at Cannes, and it's a feeling that cannot be described in words."

"It took me 50 years to get to Cannes. I am truly grateful to the audience, the future audiences, the actors and their families who made this film with us," he added.

Unlike Jung Hae In, this is the fourth time actor Hwang Jung Min has attended this prestigious film festival after A Bittersweet Life (2005), The Wailing (2016) and The Spy Gone North (2018) .

As for Hae In, although it was his first time attending the biggest film festival on the planet, he still received many compliments for his handsome, elegant appearance and outstanding charisma.

The actor born in 1988 made a name for himself when participating in TV series such as Something In The Rain, Snowdrop, One Spring Night ... and especially the DP series about hunting deserters with many violent scenes and shocking dark corners.

After premiering at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, I, the Executioner is scheduled to hit theaters in South Korea in the second half of this year.
