Passengers lined up to board the Cat Ba cable car on May 31.

According to statistics from the investor Cat Ba Sun Company Limited, on May 31, there were more than 4,300 passengers on the Cat Hai - Phu Long cable car route, an increase of 352% compared to the same day last year.

Since the ticket price was reduced by 50% on May 27, the Cat Ba sea cable car route has welcomed more than 1,000 passengers per day, causing the number of passengers in May to increase by 97% compared to the same period in 2023.

The owner said that after the price reduction, many travel agencies organized tours to Cat Ba with free tickets for cable car passengers, instead of getting off the ferry as before, and arranged free shuttle buses at both ends of the station. It is expected that in the coming peak tourist months, the number of passengers going on the hanging fish will remain stable at this level.

Tourists traveling alone or in small groups also choose to experience the cable car instead of waiting for the ferry. "It only takes 8 minutes to travel from Cat Hai to Cat Ba, much faster than taking the ferry. Taking a bus to the center of the island only costs an additional 13,000 VND," said Mr. Tran Anh Dung, a tourist from Hai Phong .

Many tourists have chosen to use the cable car in recent days, reducing the load on the Dong Bai - Cai Vieng ferry route.

In May, Cat Ba Island welcomed 285,000 visitors, including 111,990 international visitors, an increase of more than 225% over the same period last year. Revenue from tourism activities is estimated at more than 260 billion VND.
