Illegal medical treatment is one of the 10 challenges of the health sector.

On January 3, 2024, Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , said that identifying difficulties and challenges in 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City health sector has identified 10 challenges to build key activities in 2024.

Specifically: Firstly, the health sector needs to clearly identify which types of health workers play a key role in grassroots health care in order to proactively plan training and fostering and promptly deploy solutions to attract and form an effective network of community health collaborators in Ho Chi Minh City.

Second, the health sector needs to have appropriate solutions to mobilize resources from the entire city health system to participate in health management of people in risk groups (pregnant women, newborns, children under 6 years old, adolescents, and the elderly).

Managing unlicensed medical examination and treatment activities and unlicensed advertising is a big challenge for the health sector in Ho Chi Minh City.

Third, the health sector advises and recommends that the city have practical solutions to help strengthen the information technology infrastructure of medical facilities, an indispensable condition to help achieve the goal of digital transformation in the health sector issued by the Ministry of Health and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

Fourth, research and apply Resolution 98 to develop a feasible project on establishing a high-tech health examination and disease screening center, while addressing priority issues for the development of the health sector in 2024.

Fifth, the health sector prepares resources to deploy expanded centralized drug bidding to ensure adequate drug supply for grassroots health care; and works with relevant departments and sectors to effectively implement the Ho Chi Minh City pharmaceutical industry development project as soon as it is approved.

Second, the city's leadership should have practical solutions to help public hospitals become sustainably autonomous, in addition to continuing programs to improve financial management and health economics capacity for hospital directors.

Seventh, have specific solutions to put three gateway hospitals into effective operation in 2024; strengthen coordination with relevant departments and branches to ensure the disbursement progress of health projects according to the city's plan.

Eighth, research and pilot implementation of solutions to connect and interconnect practice management data between the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and the health departments of the Southeast and Mekong Delta provinces.

Ninth, effectively implement the coordination regulations between the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and the People's Committees of districts and Thu Duc City, helping to improve the quality of health care for people; effectively implement the set of criteria to evaluate output results in health care for people according to districts and Thu Duc City.

Tenth, the health sector needs more practical solutions to proactively detect and prevent unlicensed medical examination and treatment activities and violations of medical advertising.
