On October 9, in the coastal area of Thuan An ward, Hue city, units began to deploy soft embankment construction to overcome the landslide and erosion that has eaten into the mainland from 50-70m since storm No. 10, affecting 500 households and essential tourism infrastructure services, with the risk of opening a new sea gate.

The construction team used excavators to dig deep trenches along the eroded beach section, then used geotextile tubes (specialized in preventing coastal erosion) to pump sand inside to create a soft wave-breaking dike more than 400m long and 2m high, temporarily protecting the area heavily affected by natural disasters.

The construction unit representative said that the above emergency repair work is expected to be completed within 10 days if the weather is favorable. To date, the contractor has constructed nearly 200m of the soft dike.

Previously, due to the impact of storm No. 10 and natural disasters in August and September, a section of the coastline of Hoa Duong residential group, Thuan An ward, suffered severe erosion with a length of 1km, directly affecting about 500 local households, with the risk of opening a new sea gate.

Storm No. 10 also caused strong tides and high waves that destroyed tourism infrastructure and anti-erosion embankments, affecting many shops of local people in the Phu Thuan and Thuan An beach areas. In particular, the Phu Thuan beach area was the most heavily affected location, with a length of more than 300m, the coastline intruding into the shore up to 70m, sweeping away many essential infrastructure works, directly affecting the vital traffic route of National Highway 49B.

Faced with this situation, on October 5, the People's Committee of Hue City announced a natural disaster emergency and deployed response measures to overcome the eroded coastal section in Thuan An ward.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, Vice Chairman of Thuan An Ward People's Committee, said that landslides and erosion in the area are quite serious because of its location near Tam Giang Lagoon. After storm No. 10, the ward sent a document requesting the city to take remedial measures. Currently, Hue City People's Committee has a policy to invest in a sea embankment project in the area with a total investment of 250 billion VND and is expected to be implemented in 2026.

In the immediate future, Thua Thien Hue Irrigation Construction Joint Stock Company will deploy the construction of a 450m long soft embankment to urgently repair the coastal erosion damage through Thuan An ward caused by storm No. 10 and floods. This is an urgent solution to protect people's lives and property before the complicated storm season.
