On the morning of August 23, Ninh Son Primary School (Bac Ninh Hoa commune, Khanh Hoa province) held a ceremony to announce the decision to change the name of Ninh Son Primary School to Nguyen Luu Primary School. Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh , leaders and representatives of several central ministries, branches and leaders of Khanh Hoa province.

Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Luu (1913-2005), Battalion Commander of Battalion 59, member of the Ba To Guerrilla Team, was born into a family with a rich tradition of patriotism and revolution in Hanh Duc commune, former Nghia Hanh district (now Nghia Hanh commune, Quang Ngai province). He was a talented, virtuous commander, good at military, politically astute, courageous and brave.

His heroic qualities are the crystallization of revolutionary heroism of the proletarian revolutionary era and ardent patriotism, deep hatred of the enemy, steadfast fighting will, wholeheartedly following the Party and Uncle Ho throughout his life holding a gun to fight the enemy to defend the country and protect national independence.

Leaders of Bac Ninh Hoa commune, Khanh Hoa province presented the decision to the school.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh emphasized the significance of the victory of Vuon Gon - Da Ban carried out by Hero Nguyen Luu and Battalion 59 more than 70 years ago. The battle of Vuon Gon - Da Ban (April 1953) in Bac Ninh Hoa commune has gone down in the history of Khanh Hoa province and the military history of Vietnam as a legend. With only 2 companies, Battalion 59 under the command of Battalion Commander Nguyen Luu defeated the army of 4,000 well-trained African soldiers commanded by French General Le Blance.

The victory of Vuon Gon - Da Ban is considered a model of the ambush fighting style of the Vietnam People's Army during the resistance war against French colonialism, the crystallization of the commanding talent and heroic qualities of the officers and soldiers of Battalion 59, the invaluable strength of the spirit of solidarity, overcoming all difficulties, fighting bravely, and winning of the army and people of Khanh Hoa in particular, and the army and people of Inter-zone V in general.

“Today this school is officially named Nguyen Luu Primary School so that the next generations can follow the tradition of their homeland, of those who fought to create the glorious tradition of Khanh Hoa, of Bac Ninh Hoa, of Vuon Gon - Da Ban in the resistance wars of the past,” the Deputy Prime Minister expressed.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Quoc Nam - Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, affirmed: From today, Ninh Son Primary School is honored and proud to be named after Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Luu - one of the outstanding commanders of the Vietnam People's Army.

"The school name is not only an administrative title but also a cultural symbol, a connection between the school and the community, between the present and the heroic history of the nation," the Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee emphasized.

Teacher Tran Trong Do - Principal of Nguyen Luu Primary School, also expressed his pride when Ninh Son Primary School was officially renamed and named after Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Luu. According to teacher Tran Trong Do, throughout the 26 years of striving, building and growing, the old Ninh Son Primary School and now Nguyen Luu Primary School has always affirmed its position and quality in teaching and learning. From the 2019 - 2020 school year up to now, the school has been awarded the title of Excellent Labor Collective by the Provincial People's Committee 5 times and the Certificate of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee twice.
