Special digital transformation class in Hanoi residential area

Not in a large hall, nor at a technology center - the digital transformation class for the elderly organized by the Party Cell of Residential Area No. 9, Dich Vong Hau Ward (Cau Giay, Hanoi) took place in a familiar, intimate space. The lecturer is Master Dinh Ngoc Son - Party Cell Secretary, former Deputy Head of the Department of Radio and Television (Academy of Journalism and Propaganda), and the students are professors, doctors, and former senior university managers.

"Before, I was used to typing on a big computer keyboard. Now, my phone is so small, my hands shake so I'm afraid of making a mistake. It's not that I don't want to learn, but I don't know where to start" - Mr. Pham Ngoc Lan, 72 years old shared. The class helps students take small steps: from creating an email, downloading the VNeID application, finding a bus using Busmap, to creating a social network account, recognizing technology scams and... getting acquainted with AI.

"Artificial intelligence is not far away, ChatGPT or Gemini can help you write applications, look up information or learn about policies," Mr. Son emphasized in the AI teaching section, the part that was most welcomed by students.

Spreading from a small classroom to a humane digital society

After 3 pilot sessions, the elderly all wanted to learn more. Head of the residential group Do Mai Huong said: The Party cell will summarize and collect opinions to replicate the model. Understanding technology is a way for the elderly to live more confidently, avoid being scammed, and not be lost in the face of rapid changes in society.

When young people are the "digital bridge" for the elderly

In Lang ward (Dong Da), Cau Giay or Minh Chau island commune, hundreds of young union members in green shirts have transformed into "technology assistants" for the elderly. They help declare online records, get queue numbers, fill out forms, and even bring laptops to people's homes to support online public service registration.

In Minh Chau island commune, the "two-service" model is flexibly implemented: during the day, support is provided at the People's Committee, and in the evening, visit each resident's house. The union members even carry spare phones to guide the elderly in filling out declarations after work hours.

Digital transformation does not leave the elderly behind

These are not just individual community initiatives – but are a testament to the spirit of Decision 379/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the Project "Elderly people participating in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation". From mastering smart devices, accessing online public services, to understanding and applying new technologies – the elderly are not only the subjects that need "assistance", but also the force that can adapt, learn and inspire the community./.
